Which type of Urban Terror server is best for Ubuntu?

Post by Hi-8-Evidence »

I can't decide whether I should install Quake 3 + Mod or install the Mod + Standalone files... in terms of speed, and security. I am using Ubuntu server 7.04 which is regarded as the best server platform on the planet. But I been having lag issues with it more then with windows... the NETGRAPH shows yellow and blue bar condition instead of blue bar only as if something is wrong with Ubuntu's networktivity. When I go and run the server from Windows connection is excellent but the security issues concern me... So I want to start all over and want to decide which set up will best suit Ubuntu if the first or the second option, and what other security precautions I have to take to have a hacker free, exploit free server and smooth server. :p

being a ubuntu desktop user and system administrator for a huge consulting firm, i rofl @ you.

ubuntu server regarded as best server package?! lmfao

/me shakes head

n00bs these days

*edit: so ok, i just read the full post and i couldn't help but laugh some more at this guy. thinking you're going to have a 'hacker/exploit free' server is just retarded. it's not going to happen. if the server is having issues it's probably a PEBKAC issue ;] as i have three quake servers running... two of which are on linux boxes and the other, a windows box.

Debian servers are pretty good as far as Linux servers are concerned. I prefer RHEL for linux servers though...

FreeBSD is probably the best. Solaris as well.

performance, and security will always be better on linux servers, no matter what distro you use. just make sure you're running 1.32c.
