Of course it's possible that moving to UFC fights will be a bit of a system shock to Fedor... But somehow I doubt he's going to wind up like Crocop's first fight.R00k wrote:fedor is the man.
i look forward to the day when i can see him ground-pounding some UFC dickhead's face with his forearms.
I really look forward to seeing this, if it really happens. It will be a good test to show that either Fedor really is the baddest motherfucker around, or if isolation to Pride fights has made him appear more formidable than he is... I'm leaning toward the former.

he's been training elbows for a while, according to recent interviews.
His broad combat experience will most likely be an asset in adapting to the new environment.
And considering he dominated the pride heavyweight pool while it was the deepest talent pool on the planet, I don't think he's gonna have too much to worry bout!
But yea, as this last year has shown, anything seems possible. I get the impression that in mma, unlike boxing, tennis, etc., one small mistake is all you need to lose a fight. That's what makes fedor so great - he's like the only motherfucker who hasn't suffered an upset (or defeat, for that matter).

thanks jules I'm reading the article now. IMO the UFC's cage does give it a bad image. I also think the allowed use of elbows makes it's image worse because of the superficial cutting damage they do, resulting in most of the blood you see. Basically I think Pride was a better representative of MMA than UFC is.
I'm looking forward to seeing Cro-Cop fight Kongo at UFC 75, it should be a good kickboxing match while it lasts.
FYI interesting fact: Fabricio Werdum, training partner of Cro-Cop's for years, fought and beat Gabriel Gonzaga in 2003.

i didn't read part 1 of that article - only the second instalment where it talks specifically about safety.
dunno much about kongo - saw his last fight, but yea should be interesting to see how crocop handles himself
werdum & crocop is a great example of mutualism - i wonder if there'll ever be a day where crocop attempts a ground submission. I'd seen the beginning of gonzaga vs werdum - looked like they were fighting in a jungle
If crocop goes on a final tear, and re-establishes his mystique, crocop-fedor 2 is gonna be a reality worth rooting for.
what are your thoughts on chuck vs wanderlei? (and jackson vs henderson)?

Chuck vs. Wanderlei... 3? Shouldn't be done unless Chuck continues to do well. He lost against Wanderlei twice... not sure if he should get a 3rd. Jackson vs. Henderson, I'd go for Henderson.[xeno]Julios wrote:i didn't read part 1 of that article - only the second instalment where it talks specifically about safety.

doesn't count in most people's books. It was a few seconds into the first round, and his opponent elbowed him in the head, which was an illegal strike under RINGS rules. The fight was stopped because of excessive bleeding, and his opponent (Tsuyoshi Kohsaka) was declared the winner because it was a tournament format and they needed to advance a fighter to the next round.R00k wrote:his wiki entry says he's had one loss?
Kohsaka should have been disqualified, and fedor should have been advanced.
Five years later, they had a rematch in Pride, and fedor utterly destroyed him. The doctor stopped the match - it was getting fucking ugly.
here's the first match:

UFC is now the biggest MMA corporation in the world, and its cage and Americanism is whats giving it a bad name. From originally watching UFC, I swapped to Pride, and didn't bother watching UFC at all after that. All people see in UFC is two macho psycho-eyes beating the living shit out of each other. Then people think about the not-so-established Cage companies (king of the cage etc.). These companies can afford one light, and some old fencing to make a cage out of, and it just looks like two guys have been taken straight from a bar fight. Even though UFC is the leader now, it's shadowed by the shadier image of the less-supported companies.feedback wrote: Basically I think Pride was a better representative of MMA than UFC is.
In Pride I originally thought that the use of a ring wasn't as appealing, but after continuing to watch Pride it came out as less barbaric than UFC's Cage. Pride also had many good fighters, which are now being forced to go to UFC or die out in Pride.
Rampage had no hope in Pride, and ran off to UFC, and beat one of UFCs best fighters.
I will always prefer Pride over UFC. UFC gives off a barbaric image to me, and I am a big fan of MMA. It's clear that the people who do not follow it have nothing but negative images in their mind about the sport.
Can you hear the final thunder roaring?
