Wireless connections..........

Post by ForM »

A friend of mine just picked up a USB 720 from Verizion.

I tried to tell him he needs to get in and change the password as to not be bandwidth stolen.

Im I correct? or am I wrong?

and mayby a link to quickly squash this problem?

Yes, he should change his SSID and password at least. Make sure he also sets up encryption, WEP is easily hackable, so WPA is preferable.

Just dial into your router and change the firmware settings. Open a browser and type (usually) 192.168.1.1 into the address bar and you should have access to your router's settings.

Also get him to regularly check his bandwidth usage for unusual spikes, should his ISP offer that service through it's website.

lol, the wifi dongle will let him join a wifi network that may or may not be locked. there's no options to set a password on the dongle itself.
