The card is simply picking up the Internet connection from the wireless router. The router is what you use to forward ports, etc.

a wireless Air card is a cellphone based modem... not a 802.11a/b/g/n card.

here are my donwload speeds from bandwidthplace.com

910.4 kilobits per second
Communications 910.4 kilobits per second
Storage 111.1 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 9.2 seconds
Subjective rating Good
Explain results

Info
Date & time Friday, February 23, 12:11AM*
Test type IDT4 Free
Connection type Wireless: 3G
Region Ohio
Data size 1024KB

the port checker says
Error! Port 4xxxx does not appear to be open.

I am lucky if I get 20 kB/s

get a second opinion and go here:

http://speedtest.net/index.php

post your results using the supplied link after your test is done.

pretty slow. i think that typical 3G here in the states is about 3.0 Mbps down and about 300kbps up.

i would suspect that bittorrent doesn't work well at all on 3G because you do not have control of any ports since you're using your cell provider's network.

but, you should be getting better speeds than what you're showing. i would present that speed test image/results to sierrawireless and see what they say.

Thanks, I thought maybe I was missing something on the port settings.

Unfortunately I'm not getting full power at my house, only a few miles up the road and reception is greatly improved. Just my luck.

sounds like you live out in the sticks. hopefully the view is better than your network speed.

Weird. My upload speed is lower when I connect directly to the Internet, than when the traffic is routed through my company's VPN.
