VoIP as Secondary Telephone Line

Is it possible to set up a VoIP phone service over an existing DSL line and use the VoIP as a secondary phone line?

How might Vonage affect my wireless router or bandwidth? Also does Vonage work by connecting to the router/modem and then creating a connection that can be used for any phone?

Thats how it hooks up.. and banwith useage for a single line aint that bad at all.. but you need to make sure you give it QOS rights as well as all ports forwarded
or your not going to recive any calls

i dont want to Quote a number for banwith, but i think its 12K up/down or somthing to that effect.

vonage is fucking sweet. We use it in two remotes over Ubuntu-routered EVDO wireless laptops.

So an ethernet cable goes from the router to the Vonage box and then I need to set up the MAC address of the Vonage box on the DMZ and everything else.

usually, the vonage router connects directly to the internet (dsl / broadband modem) first, then you plug your network nodes into the vonage router. It can work the other way, too--you just need to be aware that, without q0s enabled hardware, yer gonna likely get some stuttering on the line.

its true, there are pro's and cons about having the Voip box plugged into the modem directly and the Router in After, the main one being if you use Bit-torrent..

wile the drawback if the Voip box being installed behind the router, the Setup is rather a pain when compared..

Then you should install it on the other side of the router to make sure its not getting flooded and end up crashing on your due to Network Flooding wile Downloading on Bit-torrent...

the main pain in the ass is due to port forwarding and etc and making sure its good to recive calls... you can allways send calls out no matter what.
