I'm saving all these pics you people take and putting them into my 'pics I've taken on my world travels' folder to show to people. Thanks for the contributions. I may need to be PS'd into a couple of them to make it more believable.
Does your battery die quickly with long exposure saturn? old nikons (like really old) used to use a lot of power keeping the shutter open, but I don't know if the newer ones do. My xpan drains in a hurry on a long exposure, which is why I've never tried it.
I was shooting for 2 hours during the night....many very long exposures (>2 minutes).....I think the battery was half-empty, not really sure. It got colder and that might have influenced the charge.
My D50 is quite economically with the Li-Ion battery. I can do 1000-2000 shots without using flash. Less of course if flash is used.
It's not a battery thing.. I know my Canon's use a magnet to keep the shutter open, but some cams use electricity. I wasn't sure if Nikon changed their shutter mechanism. I think an article I read was talking about old film units.

Ken will tell you to use a 4x5, but then you have to start shooting film and buy a whole bunch of shit that weighs a ton.
ive been looking into one of the PC lenses. You can get older ones for about $200 on ebay. Cool for architecture photography and stuff.
One major plus of the D40 over all other Nikon DSLR's is it will fit any F mount lenses, where the rest needs AI lenses. Fun shopping for second hand lenses
Took this one with a non-AI 50mm f/1.4 Nikkon-S Auto @ 1.4 couple of days ago...nothing special, like it though
that peripheral blur effect is poor quality, nothing you could,'t duplicate with photoshop, I am starting to appreciate the quality of lens related effects, because they seem to come off as very natural, but this one is an exception :icon13:
You can't duplicate real tilt blur with photoshop... I did those above in PS and they look like shit. You also get the added (or main) benefit of being able to correct converging lines.

If I recall, MF lenses aren't designed as sharp as your average 35mm because the sheer size of the MF negative negates the need for an ultra sharp lens, so putting one on a 35 might not give you what you expect. That might all be bullshit, though
