Quake 3 linux crash

The game works fine with everything except for pb enabled servers. I've been to the pb site and downloaded all the updates for the linux client, installed them in the proper places. It still didn't work, so I downloaded the pbsetup.run file. Everytime I attempt to execute it, it reports back with this error
"pbsetup.run: 18: Syntax error: "(" unexpected"

Suggestions?
