Flooding at my old village

Post by Foo »

Hah, I used to go play round laurie tutton's house when I was a kid...

Badsey flooded about 8 years back, too. Probably all the same spots. We rode through the floods on our bikes to go rescue Henry's mum as her car conked out driving through Wickhamford.

Tis the price we pay for industrialised farming and overdevelopment people :paranoid:

Welcome to Britain etc.

But yeah, it has. The usual weather systems that bring warmer temps and clear skies across to us for a few months are a couple of hundred miles north of where they should be this year, so we're just getting a bit warmer but with the usual spring mix of overcast then sunny skies. It's happened a few times in the past 10 years.

Same as our west cost then. They've only had half the amount of sun hours that we've had on the east coast so far in June-July.

no, it's the price we pay for being fucking tightwads with the money that could have been spent on better flood protection. i mean ffs, we live in a country where it rains fairly often, and some places get flooded every single year. you'd think we'd have adapted by now

if anything, you can blame the 'save the countryside' fucknuts who see a levee as an intolerable blot on the landscape of turner, constable blah blah, forgetting that the english landscape is entirely manmade anyway :icon3:

More flooding:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070723/ap_ ... n_flooding
"It was just devastation — total chaos, cars floating past, rubbish, all kinds," said John King, a 68-year-old retired firefighter from Tewkesbury. "You just can't stop water of that power.
rubbish.

Flood water levels are now said to be at the same level as the 1947 floods.

except that australasia had the same shitty weather over xmas due to the same weather system (la niña). which is good, because it should prevent next summer's traditional australian out-of-control forest fire set off by bruce the drongo playing with matches :olo:
