Right.. so now i bought a wireless router and i have to go through this shite again, i'm not very good at these mumbo jumbo tech stuff.
I've checked with http://www.portforward.com and i found my zyxel p-320w router there.. i've also read the how-to-do faq.
A question, do i have to setup a static ip? My isp gives me a dynamic ip.
I've opened ports on my old D-link router and i never had to setup a static ip?
Am i doing something wrong here and could someone help me alittle.. maybe? :icon26:
My download speed is find, but my upload/seed is crap.. need to open those ports for good ratio.. hehe.
Open ports, wireless router.
Re: Open ports, wireless router.
every time you turn off your PC and restart, you'll get a new IP. you don't "set up a static IP". only your ISP can do thatreefsurfer wrote:Right.. so now i bought a wireless router and i have to go through this shite again, i'm not very good at these mumbo jumbo tech stuff.

there must a way to access the router settings using FF or IE. forward the relevant ports in there. remember to tell utorrent etc that you want to use the same port every time though...I've opened ports on my old D-link router and i never had to setup a static ip?

I'm no networking guru myself, but I think you need to do the following: http://www.portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm (set static local IPs for the computers on your network)reefsurfer wrote:I've checked with http://www.portforward.com
Nearly all routers allow us to forward ports to a particular computer inside the "local" network (your collection of computers at home, "behind" the router). Unfortunately, many routers assign a new address to each computer every time it is turned on. To forward connections on web or BitTorrent ports, we first need a "static" (unchanging) local address on the local network to forward those connections to.
A static local IP address is not the same thing as a static Internet IP address. Most cable modem and DSL ISPs give you a dynamic Internet IP address - that is, it is subject to change. That's not what I'm talking about here. I'm talking about an address on the little "private" network that exists behind your router, where your personal computers live. Addresses on the local network are also subject to change, which prevents you from forwarding ports to them. That's why we set up a static local IP address for your server - so that we can tell the router which local IP address to forward web or BitTorrent traffic to.
