I quit mah jorb
Nah I get your point, thanks for the compliment man
IT Support isn't so bad. I guess the classic view of support is technicians in jeans fixing people's software installations. Then again, the view of developers from support's point of view is a bunch of guys that sit in front of a workstation all day and cause problems for support
I'd love to develop, but I'm one of those guys who loves coming up with workable ideas but when it comes to implementing it end-to-end, I can lose interest. Development would be hard because I can't focus on a language or project for a greatly extended period of time (yet). This is going to be a problem no matter what discipline I'm in I guess.

I took a look at the citrix 'farm' today and discovered that it's actually just completely seperate servers running different apps, because they had some issue getting them into a single farm.Doombrain wrote:that's a good thing then. updating the clients and server farm should be fairly easy. when we did it, it took about 24 man hours to be 100% again. that's if they want it done...
Brilliant.

Despite the venting above, the place is actually really cool. I'm hoping they'll offer me permanent because there's lots of stuff to get stuck into. Stuff that's already working is boring ey, where's the challenge?

haha you were serious
aren't you ever tempted just to randomly pull one of the wires and enjoy the fallout afterwards?

Been in there about 4 hours today clearing things and only managed to disconnect one person accidentally (musta broken a patch panel port as I shifted stuff). Not bad so far. It'll be a critical server soon though.brisk wrote:haha you were serious

It already looks better. When I'm done there'll be more pics.

I'd love it, but think of those pictures as a representative sample of how their whole IT system is, not just the cables. They're basically in such a mess that they have to run as a 24/7 operation because all the systems are on different backup times and everything impacts everything else. So there's 'no window' despite the obvious truth that without a window for downtime, things are going to run worse overall....Doombrain wrote:fucking hell
Can you get any downtime to sort this, like a whole weekend?
In other work news, I got an job offer from a competitor today direct from the head of HR.
Oh well. Doing the best I can without taking things down. Did I mention there's fibre down in that mess somewhere?
Congrats on the offer, tempting?
Re: I quit mah jorb
well, good luck with that!
no, the roll is much the same as i do now with a little more 3rd level stuff.
I'm waiting for the pay, car and travel pack. i've only just moved once and started looking for a house, my gf's a little pissed about it so the offer has to be a good one.
