3 rings of death after 15 weeks

Post by Fender »

360 bought April 27th, died tonight.
Oh well... maybe I'll get a new replacement one w/ HDMI and/or 65 nm CPU.

Man, I am SO glad I'm not you.

j/k, at least you know you'll get a replacement hassle-free.

Sort of. I think the 360s manufactured in July have this fixed. There's an extra heatsink on the GPU, IIRC. The 65nm CPUs should go even further to reduce heat.

It worked fine after a while. I wonder if I have to wait for it to completely die before getting a replacement.

it amazes me that MS hasnt fixed this problem (or maybe they've fixed it now as you mentioned Fender).

im a bit surprised there hasnt been a recall, though i dont know whats a requisite for that.

well not all 360s are prone to the problem so a recall would be way too expensive.
cheaper to let them break and ship replacements

Is there a 65nm one yet? I thought they only upgraded the heatsink on the newer ones?

The Zephyr motherboard is the one that started shipping w/ the Elites that has HDMI that will soon be standard on all 360s. The Falcon motherboard has the 65nm CPU, but hasn't been sighted in the real world, yet.

65nm Xbox 360 CPUs delayed until mid-2007

360s w/ Falcon MBs should ship this fall.

My first one was used, and i KNEW it was going out. But since i worked at a game store it didnt matter.

Mine now, brand new, never had a single issue.

Mine died last week and my brothers died last month. He just got his in December (not sure on the build date) and I got mine last summer with a build date of 3/06.

I'm sort of glad it happened sooner than later I guess.

Still on my first too, although I haven't had it as long as some here. Gets me a tad worried to say the least.

do they have some sort of anti-tamper sticker on the inside that will tear or something? if not then how would they honestly know?

oh and my first one is still going strong though showing signs it's on it's way out.

still kicking myself for buying the extended warranty on my 2nd 360 because MS was still doing the 90 day limited warranty at the time I got it. Subsequent to that they extended the warrant coverage and replaced my first 360 for free. I'm wondering if this 2nd one that I bought does go tits up should I bring it back to circuit city for the extended warranty replacement or go through MS. Also, does anyone know if that 3-year warranty on the red ring of death will apply to the replacement 360 I got from MS, or are they trying to do this as on the cheap as possible and making the replacement good on 1 360 per person? I am guessing that you're good for a replacement as long as you are within the 3-year window for the warranty.

Um. the fact that you pulled the HS off of it to check the CPU would be enough.

Regardless of void stickers, they know how much paste and shit is on them. Its machine built so its 100% consistant.

so why are 360's so fragile?
did they beat everyone else to market by using the market as their testers?
