San Diego
San Diego
I'm going to be in San Diego w/ the gf for Labor Day weekend - Thursday night through midday Monday.
We're already talking about either going to the zoo, or to the wildlife park.
What else is fun to do out there? I've never seen the Pacific, so I'm definitely going out to the beach one day...
Anybody a native, or ever spent much time there?

I did a tour of california last year and spent a week in San Diego. Make sure you see the zoo. It's fantastic. I didn't see the pandas because of the line but everything I saw was unbelievable. If you like biking you can rent a bike for pretty cheap and bike for miles down the beach boardwalk. They have a pretty happening night life so finding a bar or some music should be easy.
Re: San Diego
"old town" is a good time as well.
lots of good mexican food there

Re: San Diego
I've only been there for conferences, so I can only speak from the perspective of eating and getting hammered. Definitely grab a dinner at The Fish Market (on Harbor Dr.). The bouillabaisse will rock yer shit all over the place. Make sure you get a table on the patio and you'll get a nice view of the bay.
It's a bit touristy, but you can hop a ferry to Coronado and dick around the island for a bit. A decent museum, shops and shit. I had fun there, but I was probably drunk so caveat emptor!

Re: San Diego
At night check out "The Gaslamp District" (downtown). You'll get owned on the parking fee but there's plenty of bars, clubs, restaurants etc.
Not far from there is an aircraft carrier, an 18th century ship, a sub marine probably some other ships that you can tour.
Balboa Park is packed full of museims and such. You can spend a day just walking that place without actually going into any of the buildings. There's lots of activity going on outdoors. Good place to bring a girl.
Old Town as Maiden mentioned it pretty cool too. All those places are in the same general area. Plenty to do for sure.

Re: San Diego
Check out Belmont park if you're going to go to the beach. There's the oldest roller coaster in San Diego there that gives an awesome view of the ocean when you're at the top.
There's also Sea World as well if you've never been to one.
It might also be nice to check out La Jolla cove too.

I believe San Diego is German for "whale's vagina".
Re: San Diego
Sounds like some cool stuff, thanks guys.
I think I'll be able to talk the gf into the Taylor tour as well. hehe

I'm sorry. I don't really know what it means. In fact, nobody does.Nightshade wrote:I believe San Diego is German for "whale's vagina".

I want to be ON you.
I'm...... kind-of a big deal.
That movie's awesome.

Just a warning...
The zoo is overrated. Yes, you pretty much have to go, but don't expect too much, and you won't be let down.

I have a list of about 500+ things you can go do or see in San Diego, but I'll give you some highlights:R00k wrote:I'm going to be in San Diego w/ the gf for Labor Day weekend - Thursday night through midday Monday.

Anybody a native, or ever spent much time there?
- San Diego Zoo (Balboa Park)
- La Jolla Coves (La Jolla)
- Imperial Beach Pier (near border)
- Torrey Pines Hang-gliding port (north of La Jolla)
- Blacks Beach - nudie area (kidding, but it exists near Torrey Pines)
- Museums at Balboa (space museum, ruben h. fleet, etc.)
- Gaslamp Quarters - go to "The Strip Club". It's not a strip club, but a really good restaurant. Go at night, of course. This is really a nightlife area, but that restaurant is the BOMB. You cook your own steaks/chicken, etc. over grills - season them yourself, etc. (Downtown)
- Petco Park (Downtown)
- Maritime Museum (Downtown)
- Seaport Village (Downtown)
- Coronado Beach area - cross the bridge - it's nice over there. Not a lot to do, but great views of the city, etc. (south of Downtown)
- Kobe's Swapmeet (Sports Arena off of the 8)
- Seaworld (near downtown)
- Legoland (Carlsbad area)
- Wild Animal Park (near Ramona)
- Santee Drive Inn (East county)
If you're up for off-roading/camping, shooting etc. then I can give you some more tips.
Re: San Diego
I was just at the zoo this past weekend, the pandas alone are definitely worth the trip. Also they have this little spot near the Koalas where they have the "Royal Antelope," which is this tiny little deer thing (full grown it's like eight inches tall)--that's fine, whatever, but the important thing is that the San Diego Zoo's Royal Antelope just had a baby... so there is this tiny little thing in there that looks just like a full grown deer, except for the fact that it's like four inches tall. It was the nuttiest thing I had ever seen.
As for the rest of San Diego, there's a great little sangria/mojitos place in old town called Seville, worth a stop if that's your thing.
Also if you like sushi you must hit Tokyo Sushi Loha... it's a little removed from downtown San Diego proper (it's out toward La Mesa on El Cajon road), but the sushi is incredible and the place is always filled with cute college girls.
