DSL line test sites?

Post by Captain »

I'm using a SpeedStream 4200 modem so it doesn't have any testing software. I'm curious to know if there are any reliable websites that allow you to do a free line test.

Unless there's another way to figure out my SNR and Attenuation numbers.

Physical data lines are managed by your telecom operator and there is no way to test the line values exept if you ask them.

if its anything like a cable modem it will have an internal web page you can hit and see signal levels etc...
default for 99% of cable modems is 192.168.100.1
give it a whirl, or check the manufacturer docs. i've yet to see a networking device that doesn't have an internal diagnostic.

Interested in the same thing. I have a Thomson SpeedTouch 516 modem and I don't think I have it either.

BTW, what modem are you using, Amidy?

Speed Streem 5360

i just ordered the modem that my ISP Sells, i'm having issues with this one ( intermitent Disconnections... resolved by re-dialing :) )

the one that i ordered has internal Diag's, so this should be interesting.. i have all new copper running from my house to the Distro Box, and i'm about 3.5KM away from the office. :/

One of the TekSavvy guys on DSLreports sent me my line stats.

Speed
UpStream 800
DownStream 3008
RCO%
UpStream 89
DownStream 83
SNR
UpStream 8.0
DownStream 10.0
Attenuation
UpStream 36.0
DownStream 57.0
Interleaved
Distance approx 5.2km
Looks as though 3meg is the best you can do

yeah your values are much to high:

RCO% means you are using 89% of the capacity of you line in upstream and 83% in downstream, that means you line has been pushed to its limits just to get the bandwith you have. If you gonna start downloading and uploading, that means y our line is gonne be saturated faster and higher risk of disconnecting.

SNR I think means noise margin which are normal values for your line, but your attenuation is way too high, should be between 10 and 30 at most.

You will have more risk of disconnections and CRC errors with the current state of you line.

i will try it out once i'm finished flashing and etc my new router.. :)

p.s. watt... i agree... but i do have a reason for going with these guys rather then the cable company that i was with for... ohh... 7-8 years :)

Hmm... I had no idea. I'll have to check that out. Are you supposed to just type in an ip address like on the router?
