IE slow

I have xp home sp2 and for some reason Internet Explorer is slow and Mozilla Firefox is fast.

I am using windows defender as the program to test my speed. I have extreme high speed.

Downloading defender from Microsoft using Internet explorer, I get approx. 200 k/ps
Downloading defender from Microsoft using Mozilla Firefox, I get over 600 k/ps.

I know, just use Firefox. But Im wondering why this is happening. What could be blocking IE?

I've never used FF... but doesn't it have a built-in download manager that handles multiple connections? I would think that's why.

Dont know, but I have another computer hooked up through my router using Internet Explorer and it downlaods at 600k/ps, so there is something with this one machine and IE.
