i cant seem to get speech up and running on my gf's PC.
the XP CD she has is missing a few features, such as speech.
is it possible to get the speech features from elsewhere? or transfer them from another PC that already has them installed?
how to install speech
Re: how to install speech
Not sure what you're looking for... I'm not aware of XP having text->speech or speech->text software included.
Which are you looking for, and are you sure you have another PC that has this as a part of windows? Or is it a 3rd party app?

Re: how to install speech
XP ships with text-to-speech functionality. Not sure about speech-to-text, but possibly.
horton, you could try the speechredist package on the UT2004 CD if you have it... I think it's just a rebundle of XP's speech components.

Re: how to install speech
Been a hundred and sixteen years since I did a "custom install" so I guess I have forgotten it's there.
Although I do remember dicking with MS's TTS engine when I was playing with ventrilo stuff awhile back. I'll see if I can dig up a link on their site.
Edit -
Hrm I have speech on this system, who knew?!
Wasn't able to find whatever I downloaded and installed before (maybe I was on Win2k back then)
But here some links that may help you out...
Speech SDK for XP/.Net
How to configure speech in XP This makes no mention of how to _install_ speech, or of any way to download this component, so it seems to suggest they didn't make XP without it, or if they did they don't want you to have it
