Editing skins?

I was wondering where I could find the files for the character skins so that I could edit them or even make my own models.

They're in the *.pk3 files, which are ordinary .zip files with a different suffix. Extract the files you want but don't alter the pk3 itself or you won't be able to play on the majority of the servers. LEM (the Level Editing and Modeling forum) has heaps of information on this subject.
