Contributions of photos are few of late.

Perhapses we should focus inwards seeing as the majority has focused outwards.

question:

i have a nikon D40. is it worth buying a wide angle lens for my camera or should i just save my money and buy a better camera? i'm a beginner and i haven't yet mastered my D40 so i don't really feel the need to buy a more complex camera. the lens would be a nice to have though and only $400, but if i'm using a D40 it might be pointless anyway. thoughts?

the lens i'm looking at is Tamron SP AF18-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical (IF)

Also, is a 'close up' filter worth buying? I have a yellow and a UV haze filter and i'd like to get a polarized filter soon.

I haven't touched a wide angle lens since I figured out how to use normal... then again, an 18-50 on a D40 isn't really a wide lens considering the crop. In other words, figure out what you're doing before you buy something else you don't know how to use.

A normal 35mm sensor/film plane is 36x24mm. Most digitals are much smaller. A Nikon DX sensor is about 1.5x times smaller than a full size 35, so you just multiply your focal length (18mm) times 1.5 to get an idea of what your lens would look like in terms of full frame. Your 18mm lens is really about 27, but has the depth of field characteristics of an 18mm lens.

I'm betting on some kind of basejumping/bungee/freefall setup.
