so my next question is, and this is something i've wondered for years:
what do they do to the promo vids and screenies, which are claimed as being engine shots, to make them look so much better?
why do you listen to him?? jesus... you ge the answer you are looking for and your mind is made up...
Yes, that is what it looks like in game all the time! Nothing in the games is prerendered, it is all real time. Just look at the screenshots that were posted. Which promo vids are you talking about?

ah went and checked out the screenies in other thread - they look pretty good but hard to make a direct comparison.
It's just that countless times I've seen promo vids and screenies which are engine based, and they have some glossy quality to them that's lacking in the actual screenies, even when the screenies are taken with full quality settings on and antialiasing.
andy can u take a screenie that takes a close-up of the model with similar lighting conditions as the second pic i posted? And put it on super high settings. I wanna make a better comparison.

I don't know how to change the resolution settings.. but if i see a scene where it looks like that I'll go back and take a snappy. Might be a while though, I got some things to do today lol
thanks a bunch shaft - they're very nice indeed, though I still think the screenshots at the beginning of this thread are better. Might be a jpeg compression issue, or just a matter of capturing the model in the right lighting, but the textures in the first two shots seem so much more detailed.
