Quick question; I recently turned on my 360 after about a week of not being used (last thing I played was Bioshock) and fired up Halo 2. It asked to be updated, so I went happily went along. The update progressbar showed no progress for about 10 minutes (pretty odd, normally these things are just a matter of seconds) so I rebooted the 360 (big mistake perhaps). After some time of looking through marketplace for new video's etc of upcoming titles a dashboard update came along which installed just fine. It rebooted, but never made it past the 360 intro screen during which the system crashed accompanied with a distorted image and a loud cracking sound through the speakers.
There were no red lights or anything though, so I gave the system a rest for about half an hour and then tried again. It suddenly had all kinds of issues connecting to my network and after that connecting to live (it crashed several times during this). Tonight I started the thing again, managed to connect to live just fine without crashing but after some browsing through the dashboard the thing suddenly froze again. Weird thing is there are no red lights on the ring and the led on the power supply is green as well. Anyone experienced this before?

Edit: turned it on and off a couple of times now, and now it's constantly flashing the 3 red lights. Guess it had to happen some day, this is still my first (bought it one month after it had been launched here).

In the theater, push X to bring up the short menu and then move over to the camera and press it. Then in the theater main menu, upload the screenshot to your shared files and then go to your gamerpage on bungie.net and open the picture.

I don't know if its the graphical style of the Halo series, but as I play it I don't feel that its a major graphical improvement over Halo 2. In fact it feels kind of like I picked up a slightly improved Halo 2 right where it left off in terms of gameplay and graphics (some obvious improvements with lighting and whatnot). Not saying its a bad thing necessarily. I'm guessing multiplayer is going to be where it really shines vs. the predecessors in the series. I wish there were some better weapons added. And one thing that just bugs me for some reason is the HUD that is always on the screen showing the light blue outline. Still fun though.

At first glance, hes right. You look and you don't see it that much. But play it with an understanding about whats going on on the screen, and you will see just how complex it is.

IMHO, its got nicer effect than most games out now, and its HDR effect style is perfect. Its not over done, but it just works so nice. The motion blur is smart too, rendering it to a mask so that it only blurs the outer sections of your screen, not whats in the middle, making a clean view.

As for AA, or lack of it... I've only noticed it once, and that was on a harsh colour line where TBH even normal AA would have trouble with.

But when you think this games near flawless 99% of the time in frame rate, its in 1080p, its bright, detailed and has a lot of stuff going on in massive areas... Then you start to see how nice it really is.

I would like to see Gears or Bioshock have the detail they had, with this much going on ;)

We just finished another multiplayer round of Halo 3....everyone noticed that the map we were playing on was an exact replica of a level from Halo 2....with a collective sigh of "meh".

I'm sorry...this game is groundbreaking why?

don't get me wrong - i think the screenies look lovely, and I'm sure the game is complex enough, I'm just wondering why it looks different from the promotion screenies. They said they were game engine shots, so presumably they either lied, or they changed the engine somehow, or it's a perceptual thing based on ideal lighting conditions.

What do you think Odium?

I also noticed this with Halo 1, the promotional video (again marketed with the claim that it was engine rendered) looked insanely good compared to the actual screenies, though it was hard to pinpoint exactly what the difference was.

Erm... The actual final game looks a LOT better than the promo video? The video is awful looking, its bland, no real detail, and the chiefs suit looks, well... Shit.

Play the final version, hell, play the first five mins, and you will see just how much better tha retial looks. Its just a shame I cant take pics of ingame cinematics, you can only take pics of actual gameplay :( and the jpeg quality is pretty shitty, too... Otherwise I would take pics of the intro and show you just how far this game has come since halo 2.

I'll try and get a few shots up of the SP game later myself. I've only done it once, and I came out with this:

http://www.quake2evolved.com/blurforum/ ... stid=59641

Which is all fairness was more of an action shot, rather than a "wow look at everything" shot.

Can you get me a shot which shows the level of texture/bump mapping/lighting as seen on the model in this shot:

No he can't because it doesn't exist.

The game is good guys but it sure as fuck isn't revolutionary in any sense. I think something like Gears of War is infinitely better than what we're getting with Halo 3.

Jackal, dont be a twat.

Jules, yes, hold on. It wont be OMG WOW PRETTY because of jpeg compression, and the angle wont be great because I'm zooming in, but yeah, hold on.

I'm not being a twat. What I said was true. Stop being a fucking fanboy and call a spade a spade. The game is good but it in no way looks as good as what's in that picture. Know why? Because my 40" LCD says so.

Of course. BTW...my last day tomorrow. No work there, either. Pretty much everyone is getting drunk from 2pm onward. :smirk:
