i think you're thinkin of the internet connection wiz. im connected with auto everything but i cant share files with my other computer. in the network connection wiz it doesnt have an opt for using a router.
Re: Network wizard in win xp?
thank you though brah.
Re: Network wizard in win xp?
XPs network wizards are bullshit. Try the following:
- The only firewall on each PC should be windows firewall. Any other type, fuck it, they're all unpredictable.
- Set both machines to DHCP autoconfigure and reboot them. They should both be able to access the net.
- Go to start
Run
'cmd'
'ipconfig /all' on both machines. Both should have different ip addresses, the same gateway address, and a dns server entry.
- go onto one machine, go start
run
'\\ipofothermachine\'
This should bring up, after 20 seconds or so, the shared folders on the other machine. If you're doing these exact steps and it doesn't work, I'm lost... becuase this almost always works.

Re: Network wizard in win xp?
Have you enabled NetBIOS?
Perhaps you should try regedit.

Re: Network wizard in win xp?
What's the error?
Re: Network wizard in win xp?
the network path was not found. =(
Re: Network wizard in win xp?
try start
run
cmd
'ping ipofmachinehere'
If it pings that's good. if not, bad.

Re: Network wizard in win xp?
it cant ping it. =(
Re: Network wizard in win xp?
You're substituting your actual IP address for "ipofyourmachinehere" right?
Re: Network wizard in win xp?
Disable both firewalls and try to ping. If that works, you know you need to check your firewall settings, because it's blocking the traffic.
edit: Start
Run
services.msc
Find the Windows Firewall service and stop it. That's the fastest/easiest way to disable your firewalls while you troubleshoot. Don't forget to turn them back on after you're finished. If you do forget to start them again, they will start automatically the next time the machine reboots.
