I call it the rule of 2 for working/wage time $.

Post by Pete »

Let’s say you’re going to an interview for a new job.
The first employer tell you – 24$/hour. The second one – 960$/week. The third –48,000$/year. You have to think fast to accept the best offer.
Which one is the best offer if it is for a 40 hours/week work, less the 2 weeks vacation time?

Solution to a very easy way to add it up tomorrow if you don’t get it.

Hey! ek, are you gonna still have the last word on this one?

Does that include the billions in equalization payments the other provinces give Quebec so they won't complain about how bad they have it?

i hope you didn't come in here to do math and times numbers by 4 and or 2?

anyways... 48k/yr vs 24/hr... salary vs rate? Does that mean the difference between bonus or OT pay?

roughly mathematizing, you would take hours since it's a smaller scale and you get the benefit of being paid for remainders... (365 / 52 = 7.xxx and 52/4 = 13 - that's one extra day in the year on the day scale and one extra month in the year in the month scale - eg 52 checks instead of 24)

but at that relatively small difference, wouldn't one opt for the better job and not worry about the cash. Benefits/perks more than make up for that small difference.

/assuming no holiday differences

OK! First, to make it clear, we are talking about a period of 50 weeks not 52, let’s say the other 2 weeks are your weeks vacation. You can get them paid or not but…

My rule of 2 is…

24$/hour X 2 = 48, logically add 3X0 for one year 48,000$.
960$/week divided by2 = 480 add 2X0 for one year 48,000$.
48,000$ divided by 2= 24,000 remove 3X0 for 24$/hour.
48,000$ X 2 = 96,000, remove 2X0 =960$/week.
960$ divided by 2=480 divide by 2=240, remove one 0 = 24$/hour.
24$ X2 =48, 48X2= 960$/week.

I found that weird equation when I was already retired for over 2 years.

yeah that's pretty stupid. i'm having a hard time believing anyone would pay you $24/hr.

i don't know hardly anyone who gets paid weekly... and i think everyone knows to halve your salary to get your hourly rate...

from a common sense point of view... if you are working the same hours, then go salary. then you'll get severance if they fire you, you'll likely get benefits, and you don't lose out for taking sick days. i assume hourly / weekly to be contract positions. of course if OT is big, then go hourly.
