Grindhouse (Deathproof/Planet Terror).
Pretty good overall. Deathproof is definitely the weaker of the two, but it still has some cool stuff (the first crash, the carchase with the girl on the hood of the car).
Planet Terror however I was not expecting.
It's an homage to all those cheesy Eighties schlock horror zombie movies, and was utterly ace.
I think Rose McGowan was probably the weakest part of Planet Terror, but even then she had some cool scenes such as the rocket-jump.
Seperately, I'd give Deathproof a 6 out of 10 and Planet Terror an 8.
Grindhouse as a whole rates about an 8 purely for the cool little tie-ins.
I really want to see that Machete movie though

Resident Evil 3
Pretty good action scenes. Zombies. Guns and shit. It's hardly Citizen Kane and thank fuck for that.

Across the Universe: 7/10
I was baked as shit, so for the first 20 minutes I couldn't figure out what was going on or how any of the characters had anything to do with one another. The "psychedelic" sequences were weak as hell, and while some songs were incredible (While My Guitar Gently Weeps; Oh Darling) some were just shit (gay prancing monks ruined Across the Universe for me, i forget which other ones annoyed me). And the ending, what the hell was that? I don't even remember what it was, but it pissed me off.
I'm going to reserve actual judgment until I see it sober, but for now I'm giving it a 7 because it was such a mixed bag.

Machete would own. And I agree with your general take on Dproof vs Planet Terror, though I'd probably bump them down to 5 and 7 respectively. I'm a big Tarantino fan so his half, though entertaining in bits, was a definitely a disappointment.Mat Linnett wrote:

Live Free or Die Hard - 6/10
Competent action movie. The story is perhaps not the most intelligent, but Bruce Willis played his usual part well, and Timothy Oliphant was rather believable as the main antagonist. Kevin Smith as the fat nerd was a nice touch. Also, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, yum.
A few unnecessarily stupid scenes (car in the elevator shaft, the F35 chase) lowers the grade from what otherwise would be a solid 7/10.

The Host - 5/10
It's hard to tell if it's the quirky Asian narrative that I don't really get, or if the story simply isn't very good. Especially the trials of the girl's father seem oddly paced and disjointed. Also, the comedy was a bit hard to understand, ranging from simple slapstick to really dark, morbid humor. The creature effects were rather impressive though (for a non-Hollywood movie). It probably deserves a higher rating, but I can't say that I really enjoyed it that much.

Knocked Up - Quite funny in places, but way to long for what it is.

Transformers 4/10 Visuals were great, other than that it was a horribly cheesy shitfest.

I liked the way the monster just appeared on screen all casual like, and not some big build up like you get in Hollywood movies. Other than that, it was shit.Grudge wrote:The Host - 5/10

Ratatouille - 6/10
it's funny, but at the end of the day it's about a rat that cooks.

Re: The last movie you saw
DB, could it be that you just cant let it go its a kids film. I for one found it a funny film that made me laugh like a fucking retard in places, just like most of Pixars collection. It will never beat Toy Story, but it was a great flick.

harry potter & the order of the phoenix - 6/10 - FX-heavy nonsense, but moderately entertaining, though some of the direction/cutting was fucked up and the script could have used some polishing
edit: wtf am i saying? it was a kids' movie. who cares?

Ratatouile 6.5/10
Funny Pixar movie as usual, nothing more nothing less
Meet the Robinsons 6.5/10
I know it's just another animation movie, but I've never been more annoyed by a animated character as much as this. The little shit nerd boy with the glasses really got on my nerves trough the whole movie, luckely everything else in the movie was funny.
Se7en 9/10
I "got" the 720p version of the movie and I enjoyed it ever as much as I enjoyed it the first time I saw this masterpiece. There is no other movie like this and every other movie with the same storyline is totally fucking crap (Saw for instance)
