looking to boost a wireless signal reception, how?
looking to boost a wireless signal reception, how?
so my gf can access a public city wide wifi network, but the signal is weak, is there some kind of signal booster that she can get? I am not sure if this should be under T&T but the question still stands.
it's a laptop so it will have to be something that can be connected via USB or some kind of PCMCIA standard.
any ideas?

indeed, if its a USB based Wifi adapter,
go buy a can of pringles, Take the chips out, Drill a hole big enough to put the USB End though the metal botom.
place the USB adapter in it and find a way to Secure it so it will sit in the middle, without Saging to one side and its on the base of the can.
than plug it back into your computer, join the wifi network and start "aiming" the can untill you get the highest Signal possible.
if you want to mount it outside ( like out a window or somthing ) Seal the metal side with silicone, and then put the plastic cap on it and again, seal it up with silicone.
i've done this a few times now, and it works Mint!
p.s. using the windows Wireless Zero Screen aint that great to aim it, if the adapter came with some software, that usually works the best. then atleast you can see the DB gain/Loss/etc rather than looking at "Good!" "Excelent!" etc.

just make sure the hole is no bigger then it needs to be, i'm now using a knife and making a square hole just a little smaller then the USB end. That way it will fit in there nice and snug
