So who's protesting this weekend

There's a shitload of huge demonstrations scheduled in several cities in the US this Saturday to protest the Iraq (and upcoming Iran) wars. The demonstrations will be held in Boston, Chicago, Jonesborough, Tennessee, Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York City, Orlando, Philadelphia, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, and Seattle. Let's hope they can break the record for the number of people participating in simultaneous protests (which was also against Bush before the Iraq war...and was global).

Anyone here going or are you just going to do the usual, apathetic-American thing: wash your car and compare your HDTV to your neighbor's?

there's a big 'stop the war' conference in london this weekend if any folks this side of the pond fancy spending a day being bored shitless for a good cause. the swp will be there in force, so make sure you take an axe/baseball bat to bury in the noggin of the first fuck that tries to sell you a paper.

True. But I'm quite postitive this time will be different because now Bush doesn't have 70% of Americans supporting him.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...if Americans actually got involved in their democracy we wouldn't have alot of this bullshit....and we wouldn't have politicos ignoring the people. I also happen to agree with the idea that if these protests don't make a difference they should just reinstate the draft. That would definately cause over 200 million Americans to finally wake up and get involved....because then there'd be real consequences to the idea eternal war.

I think that there are probably more people involved than you think. I'll certainly be voting in '08 (as I always do), but I really feel that protests don't do shit. This argument has been hashed out here already, and nothing that's happened has changed my opinions in the least. Look at how many congresscritters and real human beings opposed Bush vetoing the SCHIP bill. He didn't give a fuck and then turned around and asked for $46 billion more to fund his bullshit wars.

See, that's the thing, people DO care and people ARE pissed off. We can only punish retroactively by voting people out of office. The system is inherently flawed (money buying policy) and the only people that can fix it are...THE ONES THAT BENEFIT FROM IT THE MOST. By which I of course mean Congress. Add to that the completely fucked up election process which runs people through the wringer (thereby keeping normal humans from wanting to have anything to do with it) and you end up with the same type of corruptible cockknockers in power constantly.
