Hi,
I'm trying to play a 1 on 1 match over the internet w/ my brother.
However, I'm behind a Netgear router and I don't quite understand which IP address he's suppose to connect to. Is it my internal IP address or the one that my router assigns (192.168.1.4)?
I went to port forwarding in the router setup page, forwarded the correct Q3 port, and it still does not work.
My internet IP address I understand is not static, but should still work since I didn't reboot the computer. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.

Also, your internet IP won't change when you reboot your PC because it's the router that manages your internet connection, not your PC (this is the main point of having a router). Your internet IP will usually either change whenever your router reboots, or every night at midnight, or sometimes at a fixed interval like every 7 days.

So I had him try that IP, and it's still not connecting. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Re: Server behind wireless router help
btw, you could download a app like this:
https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/vpn.asp
the instructions are there to use it..
if you do use that, then all he would need to do is go to "local games" and he would be able to find your server no problem.

Re: Server behind wireless router help
okiedokie. Do 3 things for me:
- Go to start
run
enter 'cmd'
in the black box enter 'ipconfig'
tell me what your 'IP address' is that it gives you
- Go to whatismyip.com and tell me what your internet IP is
- go to your router's port forwarding page and take a screenshot of what you've set it to (if you know how to upload screenshots for forums). If not just try and list what's currently set on the page.
