Quake3 - model/mapobjects/gargoyl1.md3

Post by highlanderstl »

Ok, guys need help on this one.

When I look through all of my map's files that contains gargoyls, the model is set at model/mapobjects/gargoyl1.md3 in the bsp/map files. None of the pk3 contains this file. There is a gargoyl.jpg in the PAK0.pk3 file, but no gargoyl1.md3.

I have try several different combinations of names to use for the model. None of them work. Since all of these other maps have gotten the gargoyl working without including a gargoyl1.md3 file in my map's pk3 file, I would like not to do this due to the size of the map is large enough as it is.

What am I missing? I have scanned through the bsp, map, shaders, and any other file in the pk3 and nothing.

Thanks,
Mark

IIRC this should fix your problem.
You can find model/mapobjects/gargoyl1.md3 in the above link of the q3 game pack.

Does it not get put into your baseq3/mapobjects folder as part of the GtKRadient installation?

Once you've added any model to a map, you don't need to include the actual md3 in your pk3 when distributing the .bsp file .. just any relating shader files and or texture image files for the model.

Hope that helps.

Welcome to LEM.

A bunch of the models will get installed with GtkRadiant 1.4.0, or with GtkRadiant 1.5.0, you will also need to download and install the Q3 game pack as well.

Models are compiled into the BSP so you don't need to include it with your PK3. You shouldn't need to include the shader or textures either if they are the originals from the game.

No, the install did not but that there. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong folder? "C:\Program Files\Quake III Arena\baseq3" ???

what is this? and where do I get this?
I'm new to gtkradiant... I personally think that worldcraft was a much better level editor. However, now it looks like worldcraft is Hammer editor for Halflife now and you can't use it for quake maps anymore. Kinda suxs.

Thanks, for the help... I will be around. Here is my MSN: highlanderstl(a)hotmail(dot)com. Pz

Hmm, there should be a C:\Program Files\Quake III Arena\baseq3\models\mapobjects folder if you have run a full install or during the custom install selected the support for Quake III option. I know it does it because I just uninstalled it and deleted the folder and re-installed it. And the file is most def. in there.

Maybe you should try reinstalling it. Hope that helps.

Ok, I just unistalled the gtkradiant and reinstalled it. I download the GtkRadiant-1.5.0.msi from http://www.qeradiant.com/cgi-bin/trac.cgi . And I did a complete install and I'm still not getting it.

Is GtkRadiant-1.5.0.msi, the correct install file?

Surprised it's not in there tbh. I'm still using 1.4. Here's a link .. FileFront.com

Okay, I'm not sure what's going on, but I just opened up GTK 1.4 (1.4.0 specifically), intending to give an exact path and/or verify what obsidian/foralarx2k3 said, but there's no gargoyle model showing up when I r-click-->misc_model, and there's no gargoyle model in base/models (or base/models/mapobjects either).

foralarx2k3, are you using 1.4.0, or 1.4.x? (Edit: nevermind, I checked your link. Hmmn. Why would I not have it on my machine? wtf...)

(And I've actually kinda quit Q3 mapping, so never really bothered to make the 1.5 jump, so I'm not any help there.)

Edit2: I just checked my backup folder for Q3 stuff, and the models were in there--gargoyle, major, visor_posed, etc.

Not sure why they weren't where they should be...

I wonder if they got rid of them for 1.5.0 or maybe they placed it somewhere else... but I have searched my entire q3 and gtkradiant folders for them.

Does anyone use 1.5.0 and did have the models?

Yes, that's the Q3 game pack that I mentioned above.

BTW, please try to limit your signature to something a little less "flashy". There's an unspoken rule here at Q3W where we try to limit signatures to a bare minimum. Thanks.
