$700 Gaming PC

Post by JooKed »

Ahh, I'm on a really tight budget, but I've been dying for a new pc for a while. My current setup is a refurbished HP with a 6800 stuck in it. Anyways, I want a good performing PC, definitly something with a 8800GT and maybe an AMD 6000? I'm not sure, I have no real up to date knowledge on the current processors, ram, etc. I just know that the 8800GT gave me the push to create a new PC.

I don't plan on getting all the componants at once, but at least the componants that allow me to run the 8800. The only thing I can salvage from my current PC is a 160gb HD, CD and DVD drives. I'm not sure about the PSU since the power requirments for a 8gt is 400w. I believe my current one is 420w, it seems very borderline for comfort.

The case also has very bad airflow in it. Its small and I always keep the one side panel off or my GF68 will rise past 56c idle even though it has a Zalman. If I salvage the case, I worry the single slot 8800GT will get too toasty inside there.

Anyways, help is greatly appreciated for a $700 setup excluding the CD/DVD drives and PSU(?) and maybe the case.

Murr yeah, location is important. Filtech in downtown Toronto has superb prices. Newegg sells an E6600 for about $289, whereas Filtech has an E6750 for $189.

To make sure nothing bottlenecks an 8800GT, you'll need a quality CPU, mobo, and RAM above all.

Pennsylvania US

Yeah, it seems as though I'm going to have to find some really good deals if I want decent parts to go along with the 8800gt. Unfortunatly, it cannot be over $700. If anything, my actual budget is $600-700, but I need to pay for extra fees and whatnot. Hopefully some insane deal pops up for the Holidays.
