..::LvL Site

I went over there today and I quite amazed with the new look, and the set-up is like a user interface now. Pretty on top of it. I figured I should make some mention about it, since it's one of my favorite sites, and nearly everyone one around here uses it.

If you click on Browse at the top and then my maps... you will see your own map list when logged on and those made publicly available ... I've made mine available.

Looks cool, but the old interface was clearer imo.

I'd say he agrees with what you said..

Yeah..the old interface was easier to operate since it's been that way for ions. It just takes a bit of getting used to. The old way was pretty quick and straight to the point, where this one takes more movement of things to see everything on the map...like the review and such other things. I haven't quite figured out the year thingy though..considering where to put the arrow.. with the certain dates that reviews were popped up at during which part of the year

@Hipshot: I'd suggest you contact tig. Can't imagine that your maps were removed intentionally.

I think you overdid it with the javascript/ajax stuff. The old page was better structured and easier to browse.

One example of what I mean: I don't want to have to hover over each map to see a screenshot.

It doesn't say "download" next to the download links.

Visually and conceptually, the new site is pretty interesting...

But functionally, I'm not a big fan. The timeline takes up the bottom third of the screen, so the actual map detail pages are all scrunched in and you have to scroll. And then when I click on Top Maps, it doesn't show anything in the actual content window, but instead updates the timeline, which doesn't make any sense.

I like the looks of it too. The rest that you pointed out, to me, isnt that big of an issue because if you want to look at a particular map, you can view it in the upper frame.

How you been wviperw? Long time no hear.

I'm at work on my maplist, in covering every map that is worth downloading. No one knows those maps better than me..call me a Q3 Map Geek I guess! People can make lists but they'll be putting in maps that are already in my list...so, I hope people make some different concepts like space maps...or ctf maps...most attractice maps, or such other things.
I'll be finishing my list at some point this week, I'm just trying to not miss any..

I really like the functionality of the site, but I agree with the timeline section taking up a little to much space. I like the mouseover technique for displaying each map as it saves horizontal listing space.

About the map nav / time line:
I played around with a few designs, and this was by far the fastest way to browse the map archive. I also found on 1024x768 monitors, that it took up a lot of space (as stated above). Which is why the timeline can be hidden! Hit the button in the middle / top of the timeline - or press CTRL+Z to toggle it (keyboard short won't work with Safari however - browser limitation, not a code one).

Personally, I think the radical change from the old design is lot better, faster and slicker - but it does take a few minutes to get the hang of some of the advance features. There is a list of shortcuts in the FAQ.

As to the missing map(s) - please send me some details!!! No map should be missing, in fact a lot of broken images and links have been fixed (with a few more to go). Many of the broken links and images have only been noticed since the new design, but have been broken for years. The old design just hid them well :[

The other tips are CTRL+ENTER (load review for current timeline map), CTRL+arrow [left or right] (move to next group of maps), left or right arrow (cycle the current map group) and up and down arrows on a screenshot page with more than one screenshot will cycle the screenshots.

Welcoming the feedback, thanks.

I finally finished up "my maps" section and I went public with it, but the link is dead when you click on the different one's, also with foralarx's and yours.

v1l3: I'm not seeing any problem. Can you explain the steps to duplicate the issue? Also, 515 maps! Wow - that's a lot :]
