Maps
Maps
I downloaded a map for quake3,
the instructions say to place the map in quake3/baseq3 folder,
which I did, but I cant see the map? have I missed something? it was called aedesert.pk3
did the same for a bot called magneto, told me to drop it in that folder, but nothing? I am very new to this and wish to learn,
thanks

Re: Maps
The most frequent cause of this is having 'hide file extensions' turned on in windows.
Open up my computer, then go to tools
folder options
view
Untick 'Hide extensions for known file types'.
Once you've done this, look again at the files you placed in the baseq3 folder. Chances are they're actually called aedesert.pk3.zip, meaning you'll need to EITHER:
unzip them if you can open them and there is a .pk3 file inside them
OR:
rename them to aedesert.pk3 if you open it up and there is a bunch of folders/files inside.
If the files turn out not to be called aedesert.pk3.zip and suchlike, then they could be corrupted.

Re: Maps
Its Windows Vista, I should of mentioned that, will this matter? the files are unzipped and they are .pk3 files.

Re: Maps
Okay. Try these two:
1.
If you're on Vista x64, check that the .pk3 files have been placed into c:\program files (x86)\quake iii arena\baseq3\
if you're on vista 32, check the files have been placed into c:\program files\quake iii arena\baseq3\
2.
If they're in the correct folders as above, try launching quake3.exe directly from the folder \quake iii arena\ listed above, then see if the map will load.
If still no luck, check the file sizes on the pk3s in those folders and post them here.

Re: Maps
hub3aeroq3.pk3 is in the correct folder and is 1.19mb
running direct from the folder makes the screen go white and it stays like that
I installed the point release also, and the quake3 app from the second point release.
map-aedesert.pk3 is 5.15mb

Re: Maps
It appears you're running quake3.exe from the wrong location.webby wrote:hub3aeroq3.pk3 is in the correct folder and is 1.19mb

Look at your quake 3 shortcut icon's properties, and you should find it points to a totally different folder to the one in \program files\
Re: Maps
