yeah, my c2d is running happily 1ghz over stock and the cores almost never go into the 50's (°C) (in a warm room running prime95 for hours i saw 52 once)
being as quiet as a computer from 1992 helps too; once you go liquid you'll never go back.
worth every penny.

Also ordered mine for collection on Saturday, turns out that overnight the memory dropped by £4 (each pair of 2GB), the CPU by £5 and the gfx card by £20. Lovely saving

Ouch mik0rs. I had a tough time installing the Arctic Freezer 7 for my E6750. I thought surely the mobo would snap before I got those pins locked in, especially with the weight of the cooler being pushed down hard. I think motherboards and cases need an extra hole for a screw right near the CPU to prevent the mobo from bending under pressure.

Yeah I shat myself, didn't bother trying to power it up till the next day, was pretty sure it wouldn't power up.

They definitely need a slightly better system, or I need more coordination... I don't like the thought of forking out another £100 for a mobo

my heatsink/fan combo even though it said it would work on my mobo it didn't, so I riged the fuck out of it with some zip ties.

had to push and pull on that mobo so much, it was nerve wracking

I did, the clips have to push through little holes which would have already been in contact with the table. Doesn't matter anyway, nothing was broken.

yea, i've had a few Mobo's crack on me since the 939+ based mobo's

its Scarry as hell when you think about it.

Well went to boot it up and got a CPU INIT error on the LCD display.

This is actually much more dangerous to the board. When it's mounted, tensile strength helps the board keep its shape and stop it from bending to the breaking point.

Exactly, the clips have to go through and rest against the case so a flat surface wouldn't work.

i dunno. can be such a major pain in the ass doing it inside the case sometimes. i usually lay the mobo in the bottom of its box, put it on a table and do what i have to. getting things snapped in place the first try with little fucking around is best.

No, not to each their own. The motherboard mounts are important for the motherboard not being damaged when you install the HSF.
As has been said, you need space underneath for the pins to go through. So if you're not mounted, you're not getting support from downware pressure (or little support if you have it on cardboard). But the more important part is you're not getting any support against the upward pressure of the mechanism's tension (which is what holds everything tighly in place)

Nearly all "snap in" mounts have some type of mechanism to loosely mount it in place, then tighten it. You should not be tightening it until the motherboard is mounted.
