I love the terminology these idiots use to describe the fact that there's no stereo:

We recently became aware that some consumers have not been able to enjoy the full audio output in the Nintendo Wii version of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock," said Activision's Rhy-Ming Poon to IGN.

"We are currently working with Nintendo and are planning to issue an improved audio experience in future versions of the game," continued Poon.

An improved audio experience... my ears are getting slick at the thought.

Yeah, get Zelda, that's all I'll say, great game. I think I put in over 70 hours to finish the story and get every single item. Well worth the effort :owned:

Mario Galaxy has been quite good so far. If you can get 70 hours out of Zelda, that will last me a long long time.

Most of the fanboi-type jabber seems to eminate from the crowd who refuses to admit that a system other than their 360 can have some good games on it.

If it makes you feel better, I'm not shelving my 360 for this.

I think it comes from the cock sucking of a company that manages to seduce a small group of people with a few good games.

Thinking back, since the Super Nintendo, Nintendo has not had a games system that has had more than 10 must own titles. I could list you 30 games each for the PS1 and PS2, 20 games so far for Xbox 360...

It just defies logic that a gaming system with such a poor line up of games can sell well. I guess its just down to the novelty factor at the end of the day. You can bet your bottom dollar that in 2008 you can count on 1 hand how many "must have" games will come out for the Wii.

Wii = Fantastic concept troubled by Nintendo's hunger for money rather than a good gaming experience

I am guessing Wii console sales may woo more devs to take a serious look at designing for the platform. If they can.

My point is this, though -
I wanted to try out the main titles on the Wii - specifically Zelda, Metroid, and Mario. There were others that looked good as well, if for no other reason than they were unique. The console is relatively cheap too when you consider that people are paying $170 for a game like Rock Band alone for other consoles. Buying one in order to play those games (and whatever else comes out that is good) and have the thing around the house as a party-favor when people are over and want to try doesn't make someone a Nintendo convert.

Yeah - "We wont make a machine that can produce tidy graphics or takes advantage of new technologies, instead we will tape two of our old consoles together and bob is your uncle. That way we dont have to bother pushing any boundries when it comes to graphics! We will just lure people in with our fancy wand like controller and make our money that way, instead of developing any good games!"

bleh.. fanboys.

The Wii is the first console I've ever owned. I haven't ever come across a console game that I 'must have' that I couldn't subsequently play on the PC.

Also... why on earth would anyone want to play Halo, or any other fps game, using a gamepad?

I'm looking forward to checking out Metroid using the Wii controls.

Sure there could be more games, but that doesn't mean there isn't some fun stuff out there Now. For $250 you really have nothing to lose.

I'm not concerned about ground breaking technological masterpieces on a console. That's what my PC is for. Sometimes I just want to flop down and stomp on turtles :P

I honestly believe that the potential for the Wii to deliver some quality innovative games hasn't even been scratched yet.

Essentially, new games for new button-controller consoles only really have to get to grips with better graphics, whereas developing a really good Wii game requires a bit more thinking to make use of all the possibilities brought about by the controller.

Basically, the buton-pad has been around forever - developing gameplay (not graphics) around these buttons is second nature to people who have been brought up with these types of controls.

well the biggest problem for the wii is that no one thought it would be such a big success, therefore most developer out there where developing their games for the 360/ps3 instead of making titles for the wii, the same happened with the ds and took over a year till the really good games appeard.. the same will happen with the wii..
but the noise ratio will be alot higher, currently everyone is trying to get a quick dime out of the wii by making mini/party games.. but at some point that market will be oversaturated and the big money will go to the big fishes like mario party & co.. but i can't see a trend that the wii will actualy slow down.. it hasn't peaked yet as the demand for the console is still very strong..

as for the game lineup.. well its a mixed bag.. you can't say there aren't strong titles in there, even if they are casual.. but its true that for a hardcore gamer the list is short.. but then youre on the wrong console anyway..

and the money talk.. ahh well.. i think every companie is in for the money.. thats the reason for this biz.. to earn money.

But are there any games as "hardcore" as Mario, Zelda & Metroid for the 360?
The only one so far that really deserves the title in my eyes is Dead Rising (the game I bought the console for; I haven't seen a single "Must-have" title since that initial purchase).
Most of everything else for the 360 is very pretty and very accomplished, but they all lack that little extra magic.
Bioshock turned out to be a by-the-numbers shooter, Gears is incredible to look at but has the depth of a shallow puddle, CoD4 is more of the same and is probably better played on a PC anyway.
As for the glut of sports or motor racing titles, these can all be gotten on other platforms for the most part.

Where the 360 shines is in the quality of it's Arcade titles. These are often refreshing slices of golden-age gameplay with no pretentions towards realism or excessive graphical fidelity.
While they may be few, Nintendo's own-brand stars are often worth several of the best on the rest.

The one platform that's keeping me going due to diversity and a wide range of legacy titles is the PC.
When I've played the games on the consoles as much as I can bear, I always fall back on the PC, and I always find something new and refreshing, even if it's something from several years ago.

Considering the progression of this thread, the irony in Doombrain's post becomes apparant.
