So I finally tried out apple
Re: So I finally tried out apple
Because I said so.
Re: So I finally tried out apple
I'm sure most of the quirks that bug me about OSX are down to familiarity, so I try not to harp too much on it. If you like it fine. It's decent enough. What bugs me most is apple fanboys acting like it's the greatest thing in the world. In that sense, I'm with jules: there isn't anything I use it for that it does better than windows.
Some things, however, I do think are retarded. Such as the 4 different alt/ctrl/fn buttons. It's a pain in the ass remembering which one does which, and which program uses which.
As for f9, I disagree... I don't like expose and windows flying all over my screen. Give me a simple taskbar to use for switching screens. Or alt-tab.
edit: one feature I do love about osx: hovering over folders to open them.

Re: So I finally tried out apple
Alt-Tab in os x switches applications, alt-` switches windows in an application.
Re: So I finally tried out apple
does nothing for me.
am I a moran?
alt-` works, though.

Okay, just so we're clear.Dave wrote:Because I said so.

Explorer is great. The only real improvement I'd make on it is automating some cmd-line actions on them -- like dir > C:\dirlist.txt, xcopy, etc.

please enlighten! As I said, I can sort them by kind, but kind is a very broad category - for example the kind "documents" contains images, pdfs, etc.
How do i sort them by a finer category, like xp does?
Re: So I finally tried out apple
Well, I could go into comic book guy mode and write a tirade about why I don't like Explorer, why I like Finder marginally better, and why they both suck overall wasting half an hour of my day.. Or I could just say ''because I said so" and waste about 15 seconds.

Can you show me a screenshot of a finder window with files sorted by filetype?

no i'm not joking. I mean it very sincerely when I imply you should use your own resources and quit whining like an entitlement-issued over-privileged frat boi.[xeno]Julios wrote:Underpants? wrote:I'm sure DB or Daev have a billion of these but

I think julios has some type of growth in his brain which effects him in such a way his mind burns so very brightly. Thoughts so quick and pure it defies the norm. However, in two or three years it will kill him and bust out of his ears.

i articulated some tangible functional issues i have with os x
you reply that I should learn the command line, and look at some indepth articles which convey the power of os x.
I ask for articles, with open mind.
You provide some articles which don't do as advertized.
I scoff, and am thus an over-privileged frat boy.

Re: So I finally tried out apple

Taking screenies of Finder windows gets very confusing after a while. It has brought back to me one thing that is stupid about the OS X finder, which is that you can't sort windows by two variables, AFAIK - like sort by type first, date modified second, etc.
Heh, was looking through my image folder and found this. Not a comment on the thread, but I'd forgotten how odd it is....

Re: So I finally tried out apple
thanks geebs - yea that's exactly what I'd like to be able to do, but doesn't seem to work with tiger. Will try the cmd+j that dave recommended, but I dunno - seems like leopard has fixed that issue.
