well i'm baffled on your UT2K4 problem. i've never had any issues with that game on either a 6600 or 7600 AGP or twin 7600GS PCIEX (or for that matter 8800GT), at maxxed out settings
gotta say though this 8800GT kicks major quantities of ass: UT3 almost maxxed out and smooth as a very smooth thing designed by NASA
the issue you're having may be something to do with not entirely compatible hardware on your rig. i have a x-fi gamer sound card that mostly is stable and great but then will crash during AoE3 or even watching a ewetube vid because there's a issue with the x-fi series and mid/low-range nForce 4 and 5 mobos (i have a mid 5), which is all creative's fault, apparently. good thing i don't play AoE3 often or i'd be tempted to switch the x-fi with the audigy2 from my old rig
GeForce 8800GT 512meg - Whose getting one?
Re: GeForce 8800GT 512meg - Whose getting one?
The last time i got a new nvidia uberhot graphix card and tried to put it in my PC, it turned out to be way too big for my case and i had to return it. I felt like a fool

rofl
i'd avoid the 8800 then. it's a beast. fits fine in an ATX though

WTF?Pooinyourmouth wrote:I'm running the original 8800 GTS 640meg card, but I've been able to overclock the shit out of it. It came stock at 513MHz core, and memory was at 792MHz. I have my core at 642 and memory at 980 now...
Best part is that I'm still using the stock cooler, and it's still so quiet I can't hardly hear if my computer is even on.
I have the same card (EVGA) and am already glad I got it up to 605 core and 935 mem.
Above that, I get anomalies.
Everything runs perfectly at 1920x1200, though.
That being said, the card's temps can get up to around 80 Celius, also on stock cooling.
Do you monitor your temps, and if so, aren't they extremely high?
Re: GeForce 8800GT 512meg - Whose getting one?
As I said, it only seems to affect the 8000 series in XP...I doubt the problem stems from a non-gpu hardware issue though of course I can't be certain. A fix has been 'promised' in the next release, but we'll see.seremtan wrote:well i'm baffled on your UT2K4 problem. i've never had any issues with that game on either a 6600 or 7600 AGP or twin 7600GS PCIEX (or for that matter 8800GT), at maxxed out settings

Mine is an eVGA also, but my temps don't get much over 70c. The hottest I can get it is 73c with ATI tool. Not sure why your card is getting so hot. My case has a 120mm fan in the rear, so that might help. To be honest my card will go even higher than this, but I don't want to push my luck. I backed it off a notch so I can keep it running like this all the time without worry. I also bumped my cards fan speed up to 75%, and I have a good 700 watt PSU to supply the card.
Re: GeForce 8800GT 512meg - Whose getting one?
From what I read about max temps for this card I get that you don´t really have to worry when you keep things under 100 C.
I like to worry a little earlier than that, but I guess low 80´s are acceptable.
Turned out I *could* overclock more, just by larger increments than I tried earlier.
