Re: Telescope?
I have an old telescope from Bausch & Lomb that my gramps gave me a while ago, along with a tripod. It's pretty fuckin' killer, I was checking out the moon with it a while ago, I could see tons. I can also look across the city and spy on people that are 20km away hehe.
No idea what it's worth, but it seems pretty sturdy and of high quality.

Re: Telescope?
I just purchased a pair of Celestron Skymasters, 15x70. I've been interested in astronomy for a while now, and now my little girl's interested.
I've been told to start with a good pair of binos (the ones I got were ~$95 incl. shipping) and if you really get into it, pick up an Astroscan.

Almost the same as my scope the Meade 8" LX10 with CCD eyepiece, RA motion controls.Denz wrote:

Re: Telescope?
Was into astronomy in my early years. I still remember my first telescope fondly and the cold nights outside, hours rushing by as I scanned the heavens
I vividly recall the excitement of seeing the rings of Saturn and the craters of the moon oh so clearly, like you could reach out and touch them.
If you ever get the chance people attend your local astronomy club, and their free nights. Well worth the effort.
If I ever move away from the city and the light pollution it will be my hobby.
Funny the topic comes up. I was speaking to a work mate only the other day, he's a quite chap and I learned he's into it so here's his club.

Lots on photos and info for those that follow

Re: Telescope?
I bought a 90mm Maksutov-Cassegrain Astronomical Reflector to use as a more versatile spotter scope for mine for use in tracking rather than a laser.Denz wrote:Yours is nice too.

I use a 125mW Nova X-series green laser on my paint gun instead, which can be seen even in daylight and with addons make a good night hunting light for fending off the raccoons.

Re: Telescope?
I have an offer to buy this one for 200$. Thing is, there is no tripod and no camera adapter. I want to use one for photo astronomy.
Ps: I was outside in the cold night of the lunar eclipse for nearly 3 hours the other night, it was so "fucking" cold that my can of beer turned as slushed.

Bausch & Lomb Criterion 4000, model Schmidt-Cassegrain de 4 pouces de diametre f12, focal 1200mm avec objectif Meade 9mm PLOSSL
BTW Any of you have more pics of the lunar eclipse and thanks for the pics some of you already post in.

Re: Telescope?
I have a 6 inch Newtonian. Its not too bad, have checked out the moon craters and rings of Saturn. Shame the weather here is temporamental. What pisses me off is the aculumation of water vapour on the mirror if you haven't let it cool down enough before viewing.
Re: Telescope?
I always wanted to buy a telescope, can someone give me some recomendations for telescopes around $300? Also what specs are important if you buy one.
Re: Telescope?
I'm not an expert but I meant to buy one of these. They are in the business for several years on eBay and I would trust them.MaCaBr3 wrote:I always wanted to buy a telescope, can someone give me some recomendations for telescopes around $300? Also what specs are important if you buy one.

But please ask others before making your last move.
I might buy this one as I am not sure about the other offer. This one is brand new.
Re: Telescope?
I Know...I've quoted myself because I wanted MaCaBr3 to see it...The main difference in between the other telescope is the motor but this one has a tripod and is 6 inches VS 4 inches without tripod.Pete wrote:I'm not an expert but I meant to buy one of these. As I told you before though...I don't know which is the best brand, so ask someone or Google it.

Re: Telescope?
I was actually considering buying a telescope awhile back. I found this dealer that just happens to be in OK and has a ton of info about different types...

Worth reading through if you're considering buying a "serious" telescope but don't know much about them.

Re: Telescope?
I wanted that one so badly as a kid but then upon researching and after starting to build one from scratch decided on something bigger.Nightshade wrote:http://scientificsonline.com/product.as ... -astroscanMaCaBr3 wrote:I always wanted to buy a telescope, can someone give me some recomendations for telescopes around $300? I would suggest finding a public telescope star party so you can get a feel of different types (Reflectors, refractors,Dobs, goto scopes etc) and see what one suits you. Then go to a local shop to buy it and take it home (you can even rent them at some places instead of just buying right away) rather than mail order or ebaying
Buy too small and you might be disappointed. Buy simple but large that is a hassle to set up/use and you may find it more trouble to go thru that trouble especially on cold or buggy nights.
Unfortunately large aperture easy to use goto scopes are not cheap so you usually end up compromising one at the expense of the other for budgetary reasons.

Re: Telescope?
I was out for 2 hours, I got severe frostbite, but it was well worth it, watching the moon, ans the Saturn trough the telescope, knowing that thousand's of other people are also doing the exact same thing was amazing.Pete wrote:Ps: I was outside in the cold night of the lunar eclipse for nearly 3 hours the other night, it was so "fucking" cold that my can of beer turned as slushed.
