We Own The Night - 4/10 Soooo fucking boring. Competent performance by Joaquin Phoenix and some tense, gritty moments. Overall way too slow and absolutely nothing to write home about.

American Gangster - 3/10 FFS, what a letdown. Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington are two of my favorite actors, but they were both human valium in this film. Denzel simply failed to convince me that he was a cold-blooded hardass, and Crowe was merely believable, not at all compelling. Decent performance by Cuba Gooding, albeit a short one. It was nice to see him playing a convincing coked-up douchebag after all the Disney shit he's done. The man may actually have some range.

Raincoat:

I really enjoyed this movie. It was a bit slow, but its a simple, good story. I generally hate bollywood movies, but this one was different (no singing, no dancing).

I don't think its too well known so this is what it's about:

"Although Neeru (Aishwarya Rai) broke Manu's (Ajay Devgan) heart by dumping him for a rich man, she's still the woman of Manu's dreams. With empty pockets and no support from his family or friends, Manu heads to the big city of Kolkata in search of his long-lost love. On a rainy day, wearing a raincoat he borrowed, Manu finds his way to Neeru's house to profess his love for her once and for all. If only it were that easy. …"

There will be blood 10/10

Just incredible. This film is epic.
DD Lewis is just so amazing in this film...from start to finish. I didnt think he could ever top his performance in my left foot....but this is now my favorite film of his. PT Anderson has matured into a master film maker...This film is a must see....

Best line: I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE!!! :olo:

I loved how in We Own the Night it was fairly believable up until the end where Phoenix was all, "NOW I WILL BECOME COP MAN! INTO ACTION I GO!"

It was like it was a Steven Seagal movie all of the sudden.

Just watched Peter Jackson's "Braindead" for the first time in years.
Yes, the DVD is a shit version only in 4:3 with borders and mono sound, but the movie still shines through.
I mean, come on, how can you not love a kung fu kiwi Vicar fighting zombies while screaming "I KICK ARSE FOR THA LAWD!"?

Send a bullet 9/10.

Amazing Documentary about Brazil and the insanity of its kidnap rate. How major political figures use frog farms to launder their money...and how because so many kidnappers use cutting off ears as a form of proof for ransom..a Brazilian Doctor/Plastic Surgeon has become the world leader in ear reconstruction. This doc is so bizarre it is a must see.

No Country For Old Men = 8/10 - It grabbed me by the balls in the first 10 minutes and never let go.

Anyone have any recommendations of good thriller movies?

Recently I've watched:

Michael Clayton - 8/10 maybe 7, good performances and decent story, but wasn't anything too special

Shooter - 6 or 7/10 Jumped around a bit and had some big holes but mark wahlberg sniping fucks in the head and blowing shit up

I forgot about that movie... It was really good.

American Gangster: 6/10
it got a lot of hype and ended up being on the disappointing side. All star cast though if you are into rap at all.

Chaos: 6/10
...A shoot em up with a interesting, but almost predictable, plot twist.

Jesus christ...Children of Men was fucking wonderful. Filming was beautiful in the continuous scenes, and the story was great. You really felt the despair of society and then the hope at the end.

A+++++++++++++ would recommend

The Darjeeling Limited - 7/10
No Country for Old Men - 9.5/10
Beowulf - 0/10
Beowulf is probably one of the top 5 worst movies I've ever seen. It was completely terrible in absolutely every sense.

Bee Movie - 6/10

Although rather charming, and occationally a bit funny in that special Seinfelt-esque way, it's not particularily rememberable nor something I'd want to see again.

There Will Be Blood - 8/10

Good flick, yeah, but not worth a 9 or a 10 I don't think. Good story, great acting yeah, but just didn't inspire a lot of emotion in me. I loved Daniel because even if he rarely shared it with people, he knew who he was. I just didn't get emotionally involved with any of the characters.

Matrix Revolutions - 5/10

I avoided seeing this because everyone said it was lame. Now that I've seen it, I can rightly say: LAME.
Everyone said it was stupid, except for the scene in the rain. No, that was awful, too.
The talking machine-face? RETARDED.
Seraph didn't fight enough. The Indian girl was a useless device and terrible actor. And they drew attention to the death of the previous Oracle actress when they could have just let the new one play the part and be done with it.
And then there was everything else. Which sucked. What a disappointment. But you all knew that already.

Beowulf: 5/10. As a DVD diversion on a rainy afternoon, it wasn't terrible. But let's not kid ourselves, this is a Hallmark made-for-tv movie with a bit of gore, nudity, and cursing. And let's hope this amazingly average looking CGI/motion capture faggotry dies a quick death.
