XreaL Pre-Alpha Released

Post by megatog615 »

Image
After two and a half years of hard work, the XreaL Pre-Alpha has officially been released. XreaL is a graphics overhaul of Quake 3, bringing OpenGL 2.x shader effects, advanced lighting and shadowing, and post-processing effects.

Tech shots:

You can get the Pre-Alpha release here.
Note this is PRE-ALPHA. It has lots of BUGS and not to mention lots of optimization has yet to be done. Your mileage may vary. If you would like to contribute by submitting a bug report, please read this.

More information regarding XreaL can be found here.

Note: Props go to Robert "Tr3B" Beckebans for his hard work on the engine. I am posting this news at his request.

I have a member from my site interested in porting or converting the old Quake 3 Fortress mod to the XReaL engine. I am curious to see how this will work out.

What's a ".7z" file? And, how do I get the info out of it?

Well, it does compress heaps better than zip, gzip or even bzip2.
either way, that looks hot.
And so does your mum.

of course it does, but so will the next one and the next. wtf happened to using good 'ol .rar? besides the only people really worrying about 3% better compression are the peeps still on dial-up. rofl.

Hmm... I sometimes use it when I have to wire multi-GB plain-text database backups over a 600 kB/s link. bzip2 usually compresses plain text 40% better than rar, zip or gzip. Yet, 7zip often surpasses that with an additional 10-20%. I never use it for binary data, so YMMV there.

Sorry about the lame mum joke, it's because of this XKCD joke. :)

When I try to run this Xreal, I get a "can't find OpenAL32.dll". Is this thing for a system different or bigger than mine?

Nope: http://www.openal.org/downloads.html

However, most sound card drivers have OpenAL support built in.

I got it to load up after downloading that .DLL, but it loads at a snails pace and plays even slower. I don't think my little egg-beater can handle it. The graphics look great though.

Yes! Method gave Tr3B permission to make a custom build for XreaL.
