Re: differences between q3 and q4
http://www.planetquake.com/ - for a side-by-side overview of Q3 and Q4 (or any of the Quake games, really).
Re: differences between q3 and q4
q3 is where its at, while q4 is .. not
Re: differences between q3 and q4
Everything's different. Only a few things look the same (health spheres are similar, armor isn't far off).ChefBrian wrote:i meant in game differences.. like are there any new weapons? maps? etc?
Textures, storyline, world, levels, models, weapon behaviour, physics, maps, singleplayer, community, netcode, patches... All completely different.
They're both futuristic First-Person shooters. They both have 'Quake' in the name. Similarity ends there.

He means that when it comes to multiplayer deathmatch gaming, Quake 3 is the purest, most intense and best game available. Quake 4's (multiplayer) gameplay is just a cheap extraction from that.ChefBrian wrote:i don't understandMKJ wrote:q3 is where its at, while q4 is .. not

And teleporting rockets and grenades (hyperblaster too?).
Re: differences between q3 and q4
grenades being affected by jumppads and teleports is the only nice addition imo
Re: differences between q3 and q4
Quake 4 does not support 56K.
Quake 3 can be run on a 28.8K modem.

Re: differences between q3 and q4
So basically Q4 is shit and Q3 Owns

Re: differences between q3 and q4
I loved the ability to bounce 'nades off jump pads and through teleporters. Running in q4 always gave me the sensation that I was wearing ankle weights - there was a drag feeling. The physics are quite different. It's been so long since I fired up q4, I don't remember if all the weapons are different.
Re: differences between q3 and q4
i agree for the most part but i for some reason love how nades and rockets can be teleported and especially how nades can be hit off jump pads.
but yeah, i started playin q3 because my laptop cant handle quake 4. but i eventually plan on moving up when i get a better computer. but i will always play q3!
EDIT:: crouch sliding seems cool for some reason...meh.

Maybe not the original, but QuakeWorld definetly kicks ass.
