Band of Brothers

Seen it?

I just finished episode 9.

:( I almost feel like weeping. By far, the most disturbing concentration camp scenes I've ever seen in a movie. The discovery of the camp was just unsettling.

This whole series is amazingly well done. Their exposure of each of the elements that made the war effort is a tribute to the men and women who made sacrifices. Beyond the explosions and gunfire, the mental anguish and trials of being under those conditions for such extended periods of time. It's hard to fathom, it really is, but after watching the story of these men for ten hours, and watching them go from Normandy to Holland to Germany over a two year period, being put into battle after battle after battle with little or no R&R you get to really empathize with them. I've spent a few nights winter camping, so I was really pained to watch their suffering through Bastogne. Sitting in foxholes for weeks in freezing weather, with no fires, little supplies, little food, not enough clothing, and artillery showers constantly at random times of the day and night. Watching most of their friends die in front of them or in their arms. I couldn't understand anyone watching it and not being touched inside as a human.

The series is far more instilling than Saving Private Ryan was for me. Next time I meet a vet, I'll be thanking them. Sincerely.

I've heard they (Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg) are doing a simillar series on the Pacific war. I look forward to it.

One day people like you will realize, that even in your internet facade, you just aren't funny making light of what they went through.

And of course you'll rationalize it as just an act, and you didn't mean it as it was all just to 'get people's goat', but one day when you grow up (and yes Girard, I know how old you are) you'll realize the implications of your jokes. And regardless of how you play them down, it still doesn't take away the total disrespect and ungratefullness of your attitude to their sacrifices.

It's unfortunate, your family must have pussied out of the war (after all, you are french) to leave you unable to comprehend what happened. I can't think of ANY person, with a grandfather that served making jokes about it.

It's an amazing series. The concentration camp scenes are quite disturbing indeed. The very last episode is a bit of a let down though.

I own the collector's edition dvd box set, and I've watched it about six times. Fantastic series, great production values, very well cast, made all the better by the addition of the interviews with the real veterans.

What's in the collector's edition? I have the tin box w/ 6(?) DVDs. Do you have something different?

Own the dvd with extra material and its one awsome serie.
BUT.. it pisses me off that directors/screenwriters cant do more movies from the germans view.

Spielberg should make another BoB but from the germans view.. exactly the same episodes but how they saw everything... now that would rock.

I thought I read that they were making a sequal to BoB centering on the Pacific.

All that being said, BOB did a very good job of humanizing the enemy I thought. Singing silent night, directing traffic and letting the German general address his trrops at the end. When Spears (sp) was having the flashback over shooting the SS soldier when he was typing up the reports.

All good stuff. I have the complete DVD also, it is a great peice of story telling. I especially like the little documentary they had on the last disk where they went in depth with the interviews. :)
