Printer is really slow

Post by JooKed »

I have an HP 5650, and it has trouble printing even the most simple text document. It will bring in the paper, then it will print maybe 1 line at a normal speed. It will then just "stall" and stick in 1 spot for about 2 minutes, then print 1 more line untill the whole page is complete. This makes printing a 1 page text document a long an tedious process lasting over 5 minutes.

I printed out a 1 page photo yesterday at a normal rate. Even with color, it took less than 30 seconds. I don't know what I could have done between that time and now. I didn't touch my printer or anything, so I assume that last page I printed must have done something to it.

Hmm... turn off printer and restart (clear printer memory), clear computer printer queue and restart, reinstall drivers? That's the only thing I can think of.

I shut it off, restarted computer, and there are no warning lights blinking indicating a queue or any sort of jam/malfunction.

USB printer, I presume? Try it on another USB port, preferably one from a different hub. Might be that the port your printer is currently jacked into, is malfunctioning or suffering from interference from another device on the same hub.

I put it into pretty much every USB port.

The actual printer seems perfectly fine. Whenever it DOES print a line, it does it quickly and sucessfully, except then it'll stall for a while before it prints another suscessful line. All my pictures and stuff come out fine, except they jsut take too damn long. I'm going to test it on my new computer and see if that works.

I'd be interested to see if it does this on a "self-test".
Perform a self-test by pressing and holding the RESUME button until the printer starts printing. A test page should print.

Yes it still persists. I still havnt tested it on another computer, but I have a feeling it will still be the same. I know I have the non-usb alternative wire laying around.

If it does it during self-test, that's got nothing to do with the computer. You can do that with the USB cable unplugged if you're concerned about a communication issue.

Sounds like you need a new printer... since they're disposable, yay.

Alright wtf.

I replaced my black ink cartridge because my ink light was on (even though the catridge was half full) and the same stuff happened. In fact, the printer wouldn't even move this time.

I just woke up and restarted my computer and my printer was back to normal. It printed out a 1 page history essay in like 4 seconds.

I guess my previous black ink cartridge got damaged somehow? I dont know...
