All right. it's thursday, midterms are all over tomorrow for me and I think it's time to figure out what I would like to pack in my backpack for the drunken minneapolis bike tour.
the beer has to be cheap+tasteful+stylish (in that order.)
here's my obvious first choice-
I'm also thinking perhaps newcastle or maybe even getting some two-buck-chuck from trader joes.
also- geoff- do you get shitfaced in front of your wife and kids or is that sort of taboo
it's funny you mention that because my dad and his friend recently started doing this (like a few weeks ago) and he said he would send a few samples with my mom when she comes to visit tomorrow :-)
but i think I'LL start brewing when I'm an old man
but I might try to do some dandelion wine this year.
Just recently I've been hooked on koppenburg winter fruits, its nice. Tastes like Vimto, you cant taste the alcohol in it at all. Its cider though, so that may put some people off.
Fucking The Minnesotans come out with the lowbrow midwest pilsners. (Although Pig's Eye is probably the best option for all your criteria).
As long as we're on that subject:
Zeek: head over to the Big 10 B&G on wednesdays (maybe thursdays) for something along the lines of $1 Pitchers of PBR. Frankly, I hate that shit, but it floats some people's boats.

Speaking of beer from Pabst. This shit makes me laugh every time i see it. I think you can pick up a case of it for $3. Good ole Schlitz. The beer that made Milwaukee famous
No,no, no. If yer gonna chug and ride bikes, and yer in the area of PBR, there is only one;
Born in 1844, Schmidt's beer is known as the "Official Beer of the American Sportsman"...a slogan that capitalizes on the exciting, rugged appeal of the Pacific Northwest. The quality and brewing tradition instilled by Jacob Schmidt, continues today...also available Schmidt's Light and Schmidt's Ice.

ahh well. after i start and finish this next midterm (in 20 minutes) I'll be free until next saturday. I'm definitely going to take a trip to eau claire... but other than that i don't really have any significant plans. I want to get my life together a little bit and maybe sew a homemade vinyl messenger bag.
A couple weeks ago i was seriously considering crossing the border and doing some canadian couch surfing.. I think if my car survives the eau claire trip, I might try canada on tuesday or wednesday next week.

For an 'AMERICAN SHIT STYLE LAGER', Pabst (and Stroh's for that matter) actually tasted OK about 7-10 years ago. Miller subsequently inhaled both brands and made them undrinkable of course. I take 'cheap' to mean $5 or less for a sixer.
Falstaff was about $3 per 12 pack back in my college days. Fuck me that was nasty shit.
Me and a buddy of mine just started brewing our own beer. We've brewed about 5 batches so far and each one has been fucking awesome. Once you have the equipment to brew with, your costs are about $15 to $30ish for 5 gallons worth if this tasty beverage. The cost changes depending on where you live and what the recipe calls for since some grains and hops are cheaper than others.
The only real bummer is waiting a few weeks for the first batch to ferment, and the starting costs for the equipment to brew can be in the hundreds. Also it takes about 5 to 6 hours to brew, but I generally have fun doing it.
