I got everything assembled, XP 64-bit installed, nVidia drivers, nTune, etc. This machine fucking SCREAMS. I installed CoH and Theatre of War, two games that I've been holding off playing until I got a new PC. CoH was playable at reduced settings until the battles got large, then it became a slideshow. ToW was absolutely unplayable...now I have all settings maxed on both and they run like silk. 16xAA, 16x Aniso filtering, max detail, everything cranked, nary a stutter. :olo:

Don't you just love a new rig? I just built one myself last month.
AMD Phenom Quad-core 9500
2gigs pc6400 800 mhz dual channel (adding 2 more gigs later)
Same hd as yours
Same vid card, Evga version.

Crysis is the only thing that even slows it a little on high settings at 1440x900. And that's barely noticable.

Man, I love this comp. I haven't heard the GPU fan spin up to high rpm once yet. This thing's unfuckwithable.

Jesus Christophenes. Did you get any direct professional advice to help you select components? This is truly a fucking nightmare. I've got every decent hardware site bookmarked, searching for component reviews and shit, and each time I get ready to say "Er that's the mobo I'm getting" some other reputable place says it sucks. :olo:

I'm fairly tech literate but the sheer volume of choices (all at decent price points) is almost overwhelming. 10 years ago, making selections was as easy as a $5 hooker.

I'm probably over complicating it all...I just want to make the perfect system given my budget.

Think about it this way, you now have 100 $1 hookers to choose from. :D

Find something from a reputable brand with the features you want, and check a couple of reviews just to find if there's anything overwhelmingly wrong with it and just buy it. You can keep looking and newer, better stuff will always come out. So just buy something and be done with it or you'll play the waiting game forever. Buying a computer shouldn't be a trip through anal-ville, in both senses of the word.

Yes but the pain of the neverending search is RATHER DELICIOUS! I hear ya, and I know better...I just wasn't prepared for so many choices.

By hook or by crook this fucker will be ordered by the end of the weekend.

Exactly. I just did some looking for a couple of days and just picked out my stuff. It's pretty easy to get caught up in waiting for a slightly better deal to show. And sure enough as soon as you get it all together everything suddenly becomes cheaper. I don't see any point in torturing yourself when everything will be outdated in the next week anyway.

Indeed. When I started looking for hardware, I was planning on getting a GTS. Then November rolled along and I built a quality rig thanks to the 8800GT. Something better will always come along, so just do your research and go for something that will satisfy you now and in the future.

Heck, look how much hardware I went through in my upgrade thread before I settled my choices :dork:

The whole reason I created this thread was that I knew I was somewhat out of the loop on the latest h/w. Accept the fact that you'll ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS find something cheaper right after you order your components. You just have to draw a line in the sand at some point and plunk your money down.
