There seems to be the camp who likes the older, droning, flat demonic growl, never-change-a-riff, classic death metal and the camp who don't necessarily hate the old stuff but prefers the newer deathcore/deathmetal because its so much more dynamic on every front. This would be the reason I stopped posting music here. I don't need to validate my musical tastes. I don't need you guys to confirm my metal fan status. But it would certainly be nice if I could find some band that you guys enjoy.

What's interesting is that you talk about metal by numbers as if today's bands are somehow lesser than the old guys. When I listen to Deicide all I hear is the same unintelligible droning growl thats been buried under the same simple riffs and boring drums they use in every song. Does it sound demonic and brutal? Of course it does but thats not the only thing I'm looking for.
RRROOOAAARRR wrote:It sounds like someone put Dillinger Escape Plan and Alexisonfire in a blender then stuck tabasco sauce up the singer's arse. Not bad though, since while it's not something I'd sit down and listen to I'd rather hear that than most of the generic screamo stuff out there...at least they can play...
omg rrroooaaarrr!
The best thing that ever happened to death metal was when Entombed released their Wolverine Blues album IMO. They showed the potential of the genre beyond inane growling.

Dunno why you are talking about death though, I thought we were talking about Pantera?

The problem with new bands compared to the old ones, is that the guys who play in the new bands have listened to and been inspired by the old bands. Sometimes they create something new and good from that, but often they just imitate or simply lack the talent to go that extra way and manage to create something genuinely new.

The new album Watershed is 'available' now, and so far it doesn't hold a candle to Ghost Reveries or Blackwater Park. It may grow on me, but it seems to be missing something that their better albums have. The violin/chello sections seem a bit too on their own and don't gel well with the rest of the stylistic changes.
Yea I'll wait til it's out and get it properly, but I had a feeling this album might not have been the greatest. I'll still buy it and listen to it, but if the rest of the album is like that one song then.. I probably won't be listening to it as much as I listen to other Opeth. My favourite album is still Deliverance. That album is chock full of gems, the riffage and the production is spot on. GR has even better production and progressiveness in different aspects from Deliverance, but I think Deliverance is more consistently hard hitting than GR. Even still.. so far everything Opeth has created is fuckin sweet in it's own special way, you just have to grow into it.

Fallout boy. :olo: Thats a good one. I dont listen to fake pussy pop punk. Thanks.
It's a different kind of music rather then being old versus new. You're still a fag. You STILL haven't said what you listen to, im assuming you're waiting to see if it gets flamed or not so you don't look like MORE of a douchey faggot then you already do.

How bout some fucking Superjoint Ritual?

 Two good ones. I'll have to go dig up my decapitated cds, thanks :)

You probably should have just gone through with it, geoff.

Morbid Angel... that's classic. you can't really hate Morbid Angel just like you can't hate Slayer.

Thank you ROAR for liking Bolt Thrower :)

I can't take the Sadist's singer's voice on that song... I didn't even listen to the whole thing. I like the music till her opened his mouth.

Yea that dude is a bit of a douche. I really wish they had a better singer because I really love the music otherwise.
