re auto windoz updates

i have IE 7 for XP in the windows update proggy and i'm refusing to install it, but i'm not getting any new updates and i heard SP3 is popping up in updates from friends but not me.

do i have to install IE 7 from the update to get new updates? wtf?

SP3 is an optional update. Auto updates only find critical updates I think.

but i've seen it in the windows update at a friends house, and havent seen it nor critical updates on mine

Did a reinstall last night and sp3 only shows up if you click custom when doing manual updates. It's not there if you click the express button. This makes me think it is NOT a critical update.

It's not showing up on my other computers through auto update.

i've only done manual updates, i'm beginning to think that i must have to install the IE 7 update ( which is a full install of IE 7 ) lol

I know this is an extremely far out there idea, but you could just install sp3 manually.

main prob is i'm not getting updates at all, and that i know cause every update MUST be approved by me and only me on this PC

IE7 has not touched any of my machines, and they're all still happily auto-downloading critical updates.
