Flight Sim X

Post by bork[e] »

Buddy of mine gave me this game with a joystick about a month or two ago. He's been going to school for a few years now to become a pilot and picked this up to screw around a bit and found out his pc wouldn't run it.

I've never cared to fly and never really liked games of this nature, but my god is this game hard once you get past the little rc looking pos and little cessnas, but damn fun to fuck off in if you have no idea what youa are doing. I've yet to get pass the level where you have to fly the glider around to a certain location. (like the 8th or so stage)

I just skipped about half way through the game to fly a boeing 747 from somewhere in England to... err, somewhere else, like a 45 minute flight. I get about halfway through it and some faggot in the back has a hart attack and I have to do an emergency landing in a storm and end up killing everyone on board. >:E

Anyone any good at these games, or every tried them?

I play it at least once a week cause I love flying. I usually play the helicopter missions and there's a shitload of missions and aircraft you can download for it to add variety. The game has plenty of detail and you'll probably recognize landmarks and buildings from real life.

BTW bork[e]....I have a bunch of tweaks to get better framerates if you want them. For some reason Microsoft thought it'd be a good idea to use 1k textures for trees and have 10,000 of them on-screen at the same time. Retards.

You only play it because you enjoy the simulation of anally fisting your co pilot.

I usually fly around waco, taking off at the airport at my school and try and make it to a airport somewhere near dallas. (Speaking of that Bush should be flying in sometime today I think) His big ass air force jet arrived her sometime yesterday that carries all of his armored cars and other things.

But I was actually very surprised after taking off for the first time. It's not like flying around inside google earth or anything, but still pretty cool. (the crashes suck large monkey bawls though)

I find their accuracy interesting, but driving an airborne bus is more than a bit boring. The FAA has allowed pilots to log MS Flight Simulator time as approved simulator time for years, it's that good.
I have a 9/11 conspiracy theorist nutball friend that doesn't believe that planes piloted by humans hit the towers/Pentagon. I told him to get a copy of Flight Sim and try it, it's easy as shit. :olo:

lol

On September 11th (about 6 hours after hearing about the attacks) I flew a 767 into the World Trade Centre just to see what it was like.

You're right...it's easy as piss.

Hey bork[e]....here's the only place you'll need to visit for getting planes, missions and other crap to fill out FSX: Clicky You'll have to sign up but who cares. They have a bunch of forums there for other info if you'll need it. You'll find everything from concept aircraft to the fucking Battlestar Galactica to fly. I've flown the Dropship from Halo and that fucker moves at Mach 6...so don't fly too low through the Alps in that cunt.

Here's another site for getting flight sim stuff but I haven't looked around it too much: Clicky

Here's a quick tweak guide to help direct you to the correct files to fuck up...er...adjust to get better performance: Clicky. The most powerful tweaks you can do is regarding the autogen objects (trees, buildings, etc) and replacing the tree textures and cloud textures for better performance.

Here's another tweak guide that pretty much covers everything the first tweak guide does but it's not a .pdf bullshit fagg0try page: Clicky

Here's the FSX SDK: Clicky for making your own missions, etc. I'm seriously thinking of creating some helicopter rescue missions. I've completed all the advanced helicopter missions in FSX (and a couple of missions created by users) and I need something new.

BTW...to find the FSX.config file you'll need to make sure that hidden files and folders are visible.

Have fun and don't forget during a landing to deploy the spoilers AFTER your wheels touch down. And try the heli missions....it's a whole different way of flying.

Also...if you're into combat flight sims I recommend Lock-On. It actually teaches you dogfighting techniques.

What's really funny is that he cited some Navy faggot Top Gun instructor pilot that said that'd he, AN EXPART PYLOT TYPE PERSON, would have a very hard time flying a winged bus into a massive, easily recognizable from a mile away, very well-known, visible from space building. :olo:

Actually I've played the mission dork[e] is talking about and it's easy as piss until the landing. The trick is to use rudder on the approach and applying opposite roll to the rudder. That way the plane flies level, straight and true...but slightly sideways. When the wheels touch turn the rudder back down the runway, deploy the spoilers and you'll do fine. The spoilers are important if you have a late touchdown as they'll really help in braking.

The trick with landings is that you should be looking at the end of the runway and line the plane up with that...not the beginning of the runway. Another thing about landings is that when the plane is trimmed out with the flaps, gear and a good approach angle, the controls are reversed: throttle adjusts lift and the joystick adjusts speed. Lots of newbies pull the nose up late in a landing trying to get lift and crash short of the runway. If your coming up short just give it more throttle and you'll get a bit of lift. Full flaps doesn't hurt.

One trick that I shamelessly use during quick descents is to deploy the spoilers (I've seen commercial pilots use this, too). It gives you a quick drop in elevation without increasing your speed or needing to drop the nose. Just don't forget to put them away during final approach.

One mission that takes an hour but is fairly interesting (especially the crazy landing at the end on an island) is where you fly a Bell heli to a skyscraper to pick up some suit fagg0ts and fly them to an airport. Then when you land the heli next to the private airliner the co-pilot tells you he's James Bond or some cunt and you have the choice to pilot a Lear Jet in pursuit of the people you just dropped off (towards the crazy landing 35 minutes later)....or bail and end the mission. You have to follow their jet and stay hidden from view or you fail the mission.

It's a nice mix of heli and jet flying within an hour of gaming.

Also too...use the hat switch to look around the virtual cockpit...those switches actually function.
