It might be a variety but it's not your regular cockroach. They have those long feelers.

Best advice I have for you mate is to tame your garden.

When we first moved into a house back when I was young it was a (fairly) new build and the garden was pretty much in its original state - a bit of topsoil, then just junk, rubble and weeds.

That makes it a breeding ground for massive spiders and crappy insects. We had no end of invading creepy crawlies until my dad got the garden under control. Summer was a nightmate.

So best advice from me is get a lawn down and some well maintained beds. Pave/gravel up near the house wherever practical. Don't leave weed spots or allow growth near the house especially not up the walls.

Checking around the house for decent seals is worth doing too since it's a new build. Check places like the toilet overflow outlet pipe and around external door/window edges for any leeway where creepies can get in.

Floorboards on the ground floor would also be bad, but I suspect you have concrete.

lots of good info there in that link.

maybe b4 you get to freaked out try and see if it was a one-of from a box or someshit.

throw down some upside down packing tape (glue side up) in varius places you may thing they may cruise around. bugs get leg-stuck on tape.

why spray if it was only one ey

Uhm, that's just a junebug dude.

Nothing to be afraid of, and definitely not a pain in the ass like roaches.

He probably just flew in when a door or window was open.

that's no junebug... look at the wings in his pic compared to yours. Also, even though it's a bit hard to tell the actuall size of what he found, it looks a little big to be a junebug.

Look at the third pic, you can see the hard shell on top of the wings. It's some kind of beetle.

Yup the antennae indicate beetle too. It's not a cockroach Donald.

It's a waterbug...which is nothing more than an aquatic roach. BTW, where there's one...there are more.... :paranoid:

ahh ok. I just saw the wings poking out and didn't take notice of the shell. Now that I see that it does look like a junebug. :D

edit: btw, it's prolly jesus testing you now that I think about it.

No it's not. The man just bought a house stop scaring him with your ignorance.

I'm guessing it's a beetle from the genus Anomala.

Identification
Some characteristics of the genus:
small to medium-sized, slightly oval-shaped, convex in cross-section
antennae with 9 segments
pronotum not pubescent (hairy)
elytra with shallow striations and puntures, rather translucent (membranous) along sides

or at least from the same tribe. (Anomalini)

Yes, it is. And it is ignorant to be scared by ignorance. What ever it is, it is easily remedied. Waterbugs and beetles don't usually run in packs like roaches. I don't like any bugs, hence my view of waterbugs being same same as roaches. By the way, easily half of all horror movies involve people buying a house...that should be MORE scary.
