McCain will still win the prezdensee.
I've said this before and people have said "no way"....but you know it's going to happen.
Here's McCain's statement on SNL:

Here's McCain's statement on SNL:
With the current state of the country and that nearly 80% of Americans are pissed with the current state/direction of the country, I find it truly amazing that someone can say this crap and get laughs of any kind....or even applause. America is so fucked....in the head.Good evening, my fellow Americans. I ask you, what should we be looking for in our next president? Certainly, somebody who is very, very, very old.
But just as important, we will need a leader of courage and principle. Someone who is willing to do what is best for this country. Even when doing so is unpopular. Such as putting an end to runaway government spending and especially, congressional earmarks, those wasteful pork barrel projects sneaked anonymously into bills by members of Congress as a favor to campaign contributors or powerful local interests.
Most of these projects are at best unnecessary, such as $15 million to the US Postal Service for a commemorative stamp honoring Tom Delay’s appellate lawyers. Whose idea was that? Or this bit of pork: $160 million to the Department of Defense for developing a device that can jam gaydar. Now I don’t know if this is anti-gay or pro-gay or if such a device would even work. But I do know this: jamming gaydar is not a federal responsibility. That’s something best left to state and local governments.

Regarding GKY's point about 80% being pissed...I agree totally and figure that if the democrats can't win the presidency with the way things are now - with the country almost being served up on a fucking platter, they never will.
Within that 80% or so that are frustrated, I think it would be interesting to go a bit further into the polls and see how many are frustrated that we are too far to the right and how many are frustrated that we are too far to the left. Friday, for example, I had the pleasure of speaking with a couple in their 50s who is all for attacking Iran and starting armageddon over there because, according to them, this will only hasten the return of Jesus and the glorius return of all the believers to their heavenly fate. So I wonder how many of those that are frustrated with the direction of this country fall into a category like those people and if that doesn't have something to do with why the dems are going to run away with the presidential election.

Re: Seen this McCain montage yet?
I hate to say it, but regardless of the 80% who are pissed: I'd say about half of those 80% STILL would like to have some sort of right-wing war-monger as prez who's "tough on terrorism"...it's just they're pissed at Bush right now...which means - even if the Republicans lose this election - you'll have a shitload of people voting Republican in 2012 if they have a candidate that's half way tolerable. What that means is that any progress (hahahahahahahaa) that the Democrats make in turning the country around and making it more civil in world affairs (read: wimpy) will be quickly reversed when another fascist nutbag gets into office.tnf wrote:Regarding GKY's point about 80% being pissed...I agree totally and figure that if the democrats can't win the presidency with the way things are now - with the country almost being served up on a fucking platter, they never will.

Just in case anyone forgot, America is STILL a very right wing country whose populance likes "kickin feriner ass", dominating world affairs and loves a winner...as long as America is the one winning. The easiest thing in the world to do is to get Americans to chant "USA! USA! USA!". And, unfortunately, many Americans are the selfish type who think ANY left-leaning policies are "commie" and will poo-poo the Dems relentlessly. People like Rush Limbaugh, Hannity, Druge, et al will now have a field day bashing the Liberals and rallying more supporters against the "big evil government". That's exactly how the Republicans came to dominance in the first place.
For some reason the media think that the Republican "brand" is damaged (oh please fuck off you capitalist morons). It isn't. This is only a setback. Like I said...it's only a matter of time before you guys go down this road again. If you don't believe me, look at history and the ridiculous cycle the country has been in since after WW2. World domination will ALWAYS be an American foreign policy objective and - if the political climate is right - fascism and stupidity will rule the country again. There were MANY lessons the US learned from the media debacle of Vietnam. They implemented quite a few of those lessons in the Iraq war. Now they've learned alot of lessons from the Iraq war and will implement them in the next "crusade" against (insert enemy here).
Sorry...but it's America's nature to act stupid and never learn from their mistakes because half the country WANTS to do what America's doing right now....it's just not politically correct anymore to admit it. Don't forget....70% of Americans dislike the way the Iraq war was MANAGED...not that they invaded a county...but the way they invaded. Do you think the Iraq war would be unpopular in the US if they were actually winning or had finished up and won the war? Not a fucking chance. Once war is popular again just watch what happens. This fact is even more glaring in that nearly HALF of the American economy is based on weapons manufacturing and war.
What? You guys think the "neocons" were the problem?

I honestly think America is beyond saving at this point as a true Democracy/Republic. The REAL turning point was back in 1950 during the Korean war, not at the end of WW2. As BKB suggests...move do a different country if you aren't a moron...because it really won't ever get better or ever be as good or prosperous as it was under Bill Clinton. That honeymoon is over.

The McCain bits on SNL were funny. Nothing compared to Coach Hines of couse:

Re: Seen this McCain montage yet?
the mccain bit got the same "heh
" that anything else on that show does. it's not like he wrote it anyway... he just walked on stage, read the stuff off the prompter, waved and left. they call that "connecting to young voters" or somesuch and plays into the wider trend of SNL (along with the rest of late-night tv) wishing it were the daily show.

GKY maybe I'll move in with you up there in Canada. I'll bring our bastard son if I do.

Re: Seen this McCain montage yet?
the election is already stolen...be it voter id, caging lists, the dems offering up two unelectable candidates(it's almost like the dnc is a republican organization), the media slanting or smearing or not reporting...if they can't steal it 1 way they will just do it another...
if they can't get hillary in they will have mccain...
just watch...

Well besides my prediction of McCain winning/stealing the election, who wins in 2012, what will happen when another fascist cunt takes office and that America's honeymoon is over...what are the other assumptions?Nightshade wrote:I disagree.R00k wrote: The sad part is that quite a bit of what he said really is true.
The rest of my post can be backed up with a mountain of historical evidence.
Don't even get me started on Bush's popularity and American support (as well as the support of nearly every American on this board) for the Iraq war when it began.
Seriously...what do you think would happen to the national discourse (and the focus of the presidental elections) if there was another attack on American soil within the next 3 months? What'll happen in 30 years with the next perceived huge threat?
Like I said...you guys have done this more than once and it's just a matter of time before you go down this road again. Call that an assumption if you will but it, too, is backed up with a mountain of historical evidence.

Re: Seen this McCain montage yet?
This is even worth a post? A candidate for high office changing stances depending on how he or she feels it will influence the largest chunk of voters at any given time? Unpossible! Lets be totally honest here. If you look around a little you can find proof of the 2 democratic hopefuls doing the exact same thing.
As far as foreigners commenting on American politics goes, lets blow up your spots too. Over the years, Ive met many from different countries, and to this day, not one has been able to tell me that their politicians are entirely truthful, or are even largely different from their American counterparts. Often even during their admissions, they have expressed pride in their country regardless. How is this different from those that live in the USA?
On to the economy/war debate. What good is money if you arent alive to spend it? Id rather have a little less and know that Im safer, than have more and die simply because someone somewhere didnt have the stones to make sure that the lives he or she was responsible for were kept safe. If you want peace, prepare for war.
As far as WW2, and the lessons learned go, I think we all know what happens when you turn your back on a problem, or try and remedy it with written legislation. It doesnt dissuade those who are bent on evil from doing so. Criminals, regardless of whether it is on a street level or on a global level, will still do what they intend to do regardless of how many pieces of written legislation you put up against them. Or do you think some murderer will one day spare your life because you express sympathy for his "plight"?
There are those out in the world who understand only force. No amount of niceness, help, or cajoling will alter this. Some will simply never understand this simply because they are naive, smoke(d) too much pot, are just big pussies, or think that somehow their comfortable easy existence gives them insight into a life theyve never lived. These are called posers. Just like little rich white boys who think they are black cause they bought 50 cent, or some emo little goth kid whose mommy and daddy gave him everything and he still pretends to live in misery. Offer to hold hands with someone holding a gun to your head and see how far it gets you.
If your country has never benefitted from American foreign policy, arms, protection, money, or trade agreements, and is a perfect, honest political system, raise your hand. Otherwise shut the fuck up.
