Got Rid of Vista
Re: Got Rid of Vista
I was going to have 4 gigs but I neglected to double check compatibilities between the old 2gig sticks and the ones I added ...back to 2gig now

Re: Got Rid of Vista
Guys when a new OS comes out it's going to be slower than the previous versions.
Then in a year or two hardware moves on and support for the old OS slips, and the new one becomes a more attractive proposition.
Jesus.

XP > Vista
I tried Vista on my friend's laptop.
It either Bluescreened, crashed in general or I couldn't find out normal stuff that could be found with 3 clicks in XP

agreed, I don't think anyone here denies that... as it is right now overall xp is a better choice, nobody is calling vista crap.Foo wrote:Guys when a new OS comes out it's going to be slower than the previous versions.

True to a certain extent, but the Windows family of OSes seems to make significantly larger steps in hardware requirements that in many cases are deemed unnecessary considering the "benefits" of the upgrade.
I used to think that the case as well, but after using Linux and to a lesser extent OS X for a few revisions, the hardware requirements are pretty even with each revision. Windows in general is pretty wasteful.

I had the same problem going from 98se to XP as far as finding stuff at first. You just have to learn where to look. Vista has yet to crash or bluescreen on me.Mox wrote:XP > Vista

As far as the hardware requirements, I was running vista just fine on my old athlon 64 3400+ with a GF 6600 and 1 gig ddr. Hardly cutting edge equipment. Both are fine, I just don't see vista as being as bad as some let on.

Similar comments were made about XP and how it had a "fluffy" interface and was slower than 2K and now those same people are clinging to XP and repeating the same tired lines about Vista.

I didn't loathe Vista, but I still just perfer the interfaces and smaller resource uses of XP. Here is Writh's Law:
Something I believe in.
Software is decelerating faster than hardware is accelerating.

This leads me to think that anyone can write their own law. Here's Obsidian's Law:
Obsidian's Law wrote:Monkeys are dumber than humans, if and only if said monkey is not an evil genius monkey intent on ruling the world.

there might be some truth to this but there is no foul play behind it.Software is decelerating faster than hardware is accelerating.
the level of customization and application of todays software require by the end programmer alot of help on mundane redundant lowlevel processing...simply the act of building a system "programming language" meant to elevate the programmers efficiency will take its toll on the end product
