Mars Landing, May 25th
Re: Mars Landing, May 25th
By the way, there is going to be a news briefing at 2:00 eastern time. You can watch it on the NASA channel if you have Directv or another service that offers that channel. They may show it on national news channels such as CNN, MSNBC, or FOX.

Re: Mars Landing, May 25th
BTW...Mars isn't "red". It's rust colour. So any thoughts of it being something as radiant in colour as a typical Ferrari paintjob is misplaced.
Re: Mars Landing, May 25th
an obvious reason to the lack of image quality is that they would rather not release them until they had time to process them themselves... once an image passes mustard it's worthless enough to release to the public.

lets hope so, or i call moron alert...xer0s wrote:Under the soil.scared? wrote:wheres the ice?...

What is that sharp white spike looking thing in the this image?
http://www.nasa.gov/images/content/2300 ... 1_8877.jpg. Camera bork or?
And more importantly, can I be the first moron to claim it's an alien?!

Geoff, its people like you that really insult what NASA and the other space communities are trying to do.

That could be part of the heat shield or parachute.c0ld wrote:What is that sharp white spike looking thing in the this image?

Re: Mars Landing, May 25th
no it's already been confirmed it's an ancient alien martian structure...
Re: Mars Landing, May 25th
that's sweet. our orbiting spy satellite captured our robot in flight. Good thing that works, so we'll be able to know if geoffs are landing to start a robodeathmatch.
Re: Mars Landing, May 25th
I'm still surprised at the landing... They pretty much were exactly where they were trying to go, on only like 1/4 degree tilt (the tolerance was 16)
Pretty cool how the arm works as well, not so much digging but scraping away at the soil as it's impossible for it to break solid ice.
I'm a bit surprised there isn't more to this mission though, it's something like a 90 day plan and possibly an extension, but I'm sure I'm not seeing the entire picture.`
That last picture looks like a little monkey face

There is a follow up rover scheduled for launch in the fall of 2009 and arriving in October, 2010.
Mars Science Laboratory
"Unlike the twin rovers, it will carry a laser for vaporizing a thin layer from the surface of a rock and analyzing the elemental composition of the underlying materials. It will be able to collect rock and soil samples and distribute them to on-board test chambers for chemical analysis. Its design includes a suite of scientific instruments for identifying organic compounds such as proteins, amino acids, and other acids and bases that attach themselves to carbon backbones and are essential to life as we know it."

So we can see the tiny Phoenix lander in a planet as big as Mars, but we cant see any of the Apollo landings on the moon.
Lander, and it's blue solar arrays visible on the surface, from the orbiting satelite:

I smell fish.

Re: Mars Landing, May 25th
yup...and why would the japanese who r known for their technological pretentiousness, not put a decent enuff camera on their orbitor to see the apollo landings? it's looking more and more like the moon landing were cold war propaganda everyday...
Re: Mars Landing, May 25th
Hey what's the latest on this?
My other half just told me they lost contact with the lander, so wtf is happening?
Any info please... Appreciated
PS searching those sites atm
EDIT: Possibly fixed glitch but can you believe 'em?

Idiot. You can't see that landing sites from Earth because it would require a telescope with a 115m primary mirror.Akira wrote:So we can see the tiny Phoenix lander in a planet as big as Mars, but we cant see any of the Apollo landings on the moon.

It's going to be even funnier when your wife gets tired of your loonball bullshit and kicks you out of the house. Enjoy your refrigerator box, Captain Useless.
