btw i saw this recently. i don't really believe it, but hopefully it'll happen: http://www.n4g.com/ps3/News-152943.aspx

PS3 40GB downward compatibility hitting this October?
103
As german site inplaystation.de reports, downward compatibility for the 40GB PS3 will be available this october via firmware upgrade. They talked to a Sony importer from germany who told them, Sony is going to release a new firmware which allows a fully software emulation of PS2 games.

Since Sony announced that they're going to offer downloadable PS2 games in PSN, this rumor sounds believable.

I made the mistake of trading it in because it was worth a LOT. But its also rare as fuck, heh...
Twin Snakes rare? Weird. Where I bought it back in the day, they had piles of the game in stock. I quite enjoyed that game. Never played any other Metal Gear game.

Yeah, UK wise its quite a rare game to get hold of these days. So much so when I traded it in I got £26 for it, which is why I traded.

So you traded something for money.

Erm...? No? The way it works is you get a value for a game, and you knock the price off of others.

I traded in ONE game for £26 off of my Wii when I bought it at launch. I traded in other games too, dropping the price. Its called common sense.

Great graphics on people.

Shite graphics on world.

Cinematics every fucking 4 feet. No lie. Play it. I swear to go it went "15min cinematic" > "10 seconds gameplay > "5minuite cinematic" > 10 seconds gameplay > "Another cinematic". Takes the piss.

That said, the cinematics are VERY well done. Shame this fucker wont go into TV or cinema, he would probably do great things.

Game play is... Well its Metal Gear, it hasn't changed much. Nearly met up with the Rat Pack or whatever they were called, and we had a power cut. W00tles... One thing I can say is there is fuck all stealth so far, and the Octocamo is fucking balls. Sometimes they see you, sometimes they couldnt give a fuck. Plus if this was real they would easily see you because most of the time the camo looks nowhere near correct, even when its at 85%+ camo.

For a few hours of gameplay, I would honestly give this a 6/10 "so far". Its just not as good as past Metal Gears were. The graphics are there, the presentation is there, but fuck, it just feels wrong... I hope it gets much much better later on in the game and doesnt pull a MGS2 on us like usual...

Oh and if I see one more fucking real life product in this game or one more SONY cock sucking moment where they have to talk about the fucking system for a second, I'll scream. Honestly its worse than I-Robot. I'm walking around with a fucking iPod for gods sake, in a battlefield... While drinking offical drinks... While Otocon is sucking on Sonys balls about my PS3 pad and my PSP and my PS3... Jesus...
This is all so very wrong. Also, you didn't understand how to play the game in the first mission. Every "problem" you're pointing out here is a direct result of that.

I'm 12 hours in now. It feels like a proper MGS game. o'dium is right though, the beginning of the game isn't the greatest. Despite it being linear, I still somehow managed to keep getting lost... it soon sorts itself out though and quickly becomes quite brilliant.

I'll keep it spoiler free, but where I am in the game right now, i'm actually playing MGS1 again :)

Apart from the game, how's the PS3 experience treating you. What's the media and internet like?
Is it useful as a media centre?

haha its funny you should mention it. i've been watching all my xvid movies/tv shows on my ps3 since i got it, which is really great. i believe you can do this on the 360 too, but i didn't realise.

i haven't played any games online yet (i haven't even broken the seal on DIRT, again because of MGS4) but i have checked out the internet browser (good, especially with a usb keyboard) and the marketplace thing (ok) - the 360 seems to be better in this respect, but i really need to play around with it more.

the ps3 is silent. this wasn't a big deal for me until i bought a 360, which sounds like an aircraft carrier on takeoff every time i switch it on. it got so bad, i had to use headphones with it in the end :) oh and the build quality of the ps3 is fantastic. having the power brick inside is a really nice touch and i love the fact that charging controllers is done via usb instead of damn batteries. setup is instantaneous too, with my wireless connection detected and working immediately.

i have both systems next to each other, but if the games are identical, i'll probably buy them for the PS3, simply because its silent.

I preordered this game and it dropped through the mailbox on launch day (about 9am, I was much impressed)... problem was I was in manchester and my PS3 is in London... and I'm stranded in Manchester at the moment cause I've fractured both feet... anywho... I presuaded a friend that it was in the interests of humanity and his own personal karma to lend his crippled friend (me) his PS3... and to his credit, he did....

the reason for this post is cause his PS3 is loud as shit when playing MGS... like a fucking hoover (small hoover, but hoover nevertheless). Its fine with other games but MGS really seems to stress it.... anyone else finding this?

I'm wondering if the cabinet I have the PS3 in is too hot of if his PS3 is fucked or if it's just MGS... and brisks post saying "the ps3 is silent" further worries me... i don't wanna be responsible for burning out his PS3...

ps: odium, I know you've taken it back and eaten your own words all ready, but in defense of Act 1 (which I can understand is frustrating when you want to just "play the damn game"), there's so much depth and detail and so many questions to answer that if Act 1 wasn't the way it was then the "story quality" of the game wouldn't be half as good. Also, structuring the Act this was paces people into the game much better. I took for granted how easy the game was as I'm a Metal Gear vet... I missed snake eater but played the other two and some of the PSP version. That said, a friend came around to give the game a whirl and he was stuggling the get to grips with the controls and concept of the game and was confused to the story as he thought it was going to fast... so I think they're struck a good balance which may mildly frustrate the more serious gamer but gives every day joe a chance to actually enjoy and appreciate the game for what it is.

I think i paid 25 quid for mine from these guys in total... bargain and will arrive before the official UK launch. MGS wouldn't be MGS without vibrations! :)

I logged about 45 hours on MGS:4 because I tend to pause it during cutscenes when I have to go to work/class or jerk off.

I have my PS3 set on top of my TV, running for the most part of the day. I had my PS3 on for almost 2 weeks straight when while it was on "folding@home." So no worries.

Yeah DB, its used as my media centre. For some reason I use it more than my 360 for streaming media from my PC, its just, well, easier...

That and the fact the animations that play when you are listening to music look fucking awesome in 1080p.
