Wolfenstein: ET Map Source File Released

Post by obsidian »

We are happy to announce that we have received approval from Kevin Cloud over at id Software to release the source maps that we created during our development of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. This is a belated present to mark Wolf:ET's fifth birthday that we reported on last month. The package is a modest 6 Megabytes in size and includes source .map files for all six of the officially released maps.

Arr yes a trip down memory lane :) I can't believe it has been 5 years, crazy times. It is a shame SD did not release the unfinished maps of ET, I want to see Colditz Castle again! :D

Yeah, 5 years are so short.
If this interates itself just 20 times, it's a century!

BTW:
It would be cooler that SD releases all the snapshots created during map making.
Besides various blueprints.
Plus psd files for textures.

Mmmmm ET levels, I love all of them(except maybe battery :D), such great stuff in all of them, both gameplay and graphics wise - one of the tightest collections of levels for any game ever.

@Sock: Did you design most of them or am I remembering badly? Can you comment a bit on who did what levels during Wolf ET, and how many level designers you were? :D

Totally wrong >:( My only influence was with Fueldump. I did work on others map but that was because maps were rotated around every 6 weeks to different level designers. Everyone worked long hours and was extremely passionate about producing the best they could. It was indeed crazy times.

Fueldump was my fave map out of them all I think, it just stuck with me, same as mp_beach from RtCW did and... erm... mp_"Theres a big room with crates and a big tall wooden structure that has one of those slides on the side for rocks".

Have you got much experience making levels then Sock like this?

Let me get this straight.. you're asking one of the best level designers around if he has experience building maps with 'terrain' in them? Whose written what is regarded as the definitive tutorials on how to construct that type of level, as well as producing quite a bit of the stuff commercially/professionally. You're asking that guy if he has experience?!

Very strange actually, and yes, it was a silly question as a result. Go and look at socks website which is linked in his sig (and go and take a look at what obsidian has done whilst you're at it).

Do you do any level design yourself, or just ask rhetorical questions on forums? ;)

Simon actually has a trained monkey that makes his levels for him. I've tried to buy it from him, but no dice.

No, and in fact I always thought "Radiant" was some sort of central heating system for houses :D

You asked the wrong person. You needed to have persuaded the monkey that he'd be better off under your care, so plenty of bananas, TLC and episodes of friends that Marcell appeared in. :sly:
